Display rules - TLN missing but page visible

When I started defining desktop rules, I see a lot of unexpected behaviour with portal.

I am using AJAX page and specified fitler at desktop and few entry points(workset). For a while it went fine, but now I see the entire top level navigation missing. But in the content area I see is the page of first tab(but tab is missing). All I see at the TLN is empty space. It is supposed to show few tabs which has same filters.

Now I removed the filter from desktop, still I see the TLN empty - though I point the rule to standard out of the box desktop, I see empty TLN.

I am on NW 7.02 and using IE7.

Any help?

Looking at the details given about the changes done to the Desktop, would like to suggest you to once try doing below steps and re-try logging into the portal.

    1. Clear Navigation Cache in Portal path: System Admin --> Navigation

    2. Clear IE Browser cache via path Tools --> Internet Options

    3. After above caches are cleared, log off and log in back in to Portal.

    4. Now click on the Portal desktop page (some common area) once and then click CTRL+F5 to re-load the entire portal desktop page.

    Swapna Priya.

I ran into this issue for couple of different reasons

      1. AFP uses http://<portal>/AFPServlet to get navigation information. We had webdispatcher and we didnot configure this request to go through. After defining this url in webdispatcher, it started working fine.

      2. Once AFP got corrupted. When we raised a ticket to SAP they suggested redeploying these components

After redeploying these, the issue is partially resolved. If I specify AFP desktop in Master Rule Collection, it works. If I configure it through any custom rule collection, navigation disappears. I am still living with this as it happens only in Dev. Lucky me - QA and PROD are doing good.

We again found this problem in another test env and we simply did a portal refresh from PROD - this make it work normal.

I really hope your scenario be first one. If you are at scenario 2 first redeploy those components. If it doesnt work, consider doing a refresh from any un-touched system.

I dont have enough time these days to dig into AFP code and identify the issue. Sorry if I couldnt help much.

Let me know how it goes.
