Database jobs are getting failed

Former Member

Dear All,

In our production system, we are unable to execute database jobs successfully in TCode DB13.

System Landscape :

SAP NetWeaver 7.01

SAP Application server host OS : Solaris

SAP Database Server host OS : HP-unix

Database : Oracle 10.2

We are using distributed model where SAP Application instance running on different server and database instance running on different server.

Database jobs " Check Database" and "Update Static" scheduled via DB13 are getting failed. I found that background jobs scheduled by DB13 are getting failed.

Error : 1005 when executing external command brconnect on SAPXPG_DBDEST_<DB Host> (xpgid=0,convid=.)

I found that RFC SAPXPG_DBDEST_<DB Host> is not working as this RFC execute the BRTOOL function on Database host.

Error in RFC :

Logon Connection Error

Error Details Error when opening an RFC connection

Error Details ERROR: SAP gateway connection failed. Is SAP gateway started?

Error Details LOCATION: SAP-Server <SAP Application host>_<SID>_20 on host <SAP Application host> (wp 0)

Error Details COMPONENT: CPIC

Error Details COUNTER: 61

Error Details MODULE:

Error Details LINE:

Error Details RETURN CODE: 236

Error Details SUBRC: 0

Error Details RELEASE: 701

Error Details TIME: Wed Jan 25 08:39:08 2012

Error Details VERSION:

On SAP Application host following Gateway service is running:

bwpadm 4581 4577 0 Jan 22 ? 0:59 gwrd -dp pf=/usr/sap/BWP/SYS/profile/BWP_DVEBMGS20_psapp08

But there is no Gateway service is running on database host.

Do we need to have SAP Gateway service on Database host as well.

Please analyze this problem and help me.

Thanks

Abhishek

Hi Abhishek

This is a very common issue of HA or distributed systems. A basis search in the forum could have helped you by now.

Refer to this link

http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Basis/InstallationofSAPgatewayservicesinMSCS+cluster

though it is for MSCS, you can get the general idea on how to do this on Unix.

Cheers!

Thanks Deepak and Javed,

We encounter with this error after OS patching of our Database server. Before OS patching, this functionality was working fine i.e. RFC was working fine.

Means SAP Gateway service already installed on DB server , only we need to activate the service.

On DB server , gwrd executable file is available in path : /usr/sap/BWD/SYS/exe/run

Could you please let me know the command to activate it.

Thanks,

Abhishek

gwrd -dp pf=<instace profile>

is the command to start the gw service.

Thanks!!

Start the gateway as <sid>adm, you are getting permission issues

failed to open gw_log-2012-01-27 (Permission denied)

could not open file /usr/sap/BWP/DVEBMGS20/log/ALMTTREE for write

Hi

Start the job, after loging as '<sid>adm'. I see that you have logged in as 'ora<sid>' which is not correct. Because of this, its failing to write to log files.

try to change the dev_rd file to dev_rd.old, manually.

Hope this helps.

With regards,

Rajesh

Dear All,

After login with <SID>adm I try to start Gateway service with following command :

gwrd -dp pf=/usr/sap/BWD/SYS/profile/BWD_DVEBMGS20_DHSDBO03

But no luck

when I checked the trace file dev_rd , I found the following

-

trc file: "dev_rd", trc level: 1, release: "701"

Please search before posting

Hi,

You need to install the standalone gateway to get connected between the two system for doing the db13 activities. Related notes available in support site.

Thanks to all.

My issue got resolved in Development server. I was able to start gateway service with command 'gwrd -force pf=<> & '.

But with same command I am unable to start gateway service in Production box.

Have you checked that the user you are logged on with has permission to the folders?

Hi Abhishek,

You need to have SAP gateway installed on the DB host for DB13 jobs to run successfully in a distributed environment.
