Hello Experts-
I was informed on the WebDynpro forum in SDN that it is not possible to deploy WebDynpro Java applications on non-SAP (non-WAS Java) J2EE compliant server. Is this accurate?
Is it possible to deploy a WebDynpro Java application on, for instance, WebLogic or WebSphere or JBoss or JRun or any of the other J2EE compliant servers?
If not, what is the possibility of this becoming possible in the near future?
Thank you,
- Vik.
Web Dynpro applications require the Web Dynpro runtime which is part of the SAP Web AS and not available on other J2EE servers.

Hello Armin-
Thanks for your reply.
Is it unfeasable to port the WebDynpro runtime to other J2EE servers or is it border-line impossible?
I mean, is it possible to do so but that it would require heavy duty modifications on the application server? I am guessing that even if this was an outside possibility then a scenario like this will neither be supported by SAP and nor by the other server software maker.
What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks,
- Vik.
HI Vik,
WebDynpro are SAP proprietary these can't be deployed on any other servers as you mentioned in weblogic, websphere or Jboss where as J2EE applications can be deploy and run
both in WAS and other J2EE servers, the reason why we can't deploy WebDynpro in other servers is , there are additional files (SAP proprietary) added to WebDynpro applications.

Ramakrishna,
This means you can't build a J2EE compliant Enterprise Application with Web Dynpro (http://java.sun.com/j2ee/j2ee-1_4-fr-spec.pdf)? Why wouldn't you want to do this? I personally feel this is a major drawback of Web Dynpro. You are losing the oppurtunity for positioning Web Dynpro as an professional UI development environment and degrading it to a SAP tool with SAP Portal integration. Doesnt seem like a good base for developers to join in. I rather build my apps with JSF+AJAX which i can 'run anywhere' (<- Sounds familiar?).
Regards,
Endy
