Installing Mobile server on same server as BOE

Hi,

we recently installed BI 4.0 here. Now we want to install Mobile server to allow IPAD connectivity. In all the documentation for Mobile server installation etc, it says that SAP recommends to install Mobile server on a seperate host from the BOE server for "performance issues". We will not be having more than 10 mobile users and hence I am not too worried about performance issues. Also, we do not have extra servers to put the mobile server on. So would it be okay to put it on the BOE server itself ?? are there any security issues ? Please share your real life experiences and tell me if someone has it deployed in their production environment like this.

Thanks

RS

Hi,

BI Mobile server can be deployed on same server where BOE is installed and it can happen without any security issues.

Also, VAS and VMS not getting started is really not related to where Mobile Server is deployed.

RS,

Were you able to get this to work? We have also installed BOBJ 4.0 and we have tried to get the BOBJ Mobile server to work but get an error when trying to start the VAS and VMS servers. We've tried using the Mobile Configuration Tool with no luck. RIght now out mobile server is on the same server as our BOBJ 4.0 but we are going to try installing it on a separate server to see if that resolves the issues. Please let me know if you were able to get this to work.

Thanks,

Anthony

hi,

I do not think, it will create any problems if you install the BO mobile on the same server( BO enteprise).

What is the error message that you get while you configure your mobile utility tool?

Are you using derby ( default ) database?

Also, make sure the port numbers are entered correct.

Hi,

If you are talking about 10 ipad users i would suggest to installmit on the same server(of course if you have taken into account sap bobj 4.0 recomemnded hw requirements).

He have it like this in our 'semi' production environment and it works just fine. If you take into account the newly available option for retriving latest instance the workload is even smaler.

The only concern regarding the mobile server setup should be security issues. For this i recomemd you to check the ipad mobile security guide.
