transport of configuration objects

Former Member

Hi experts,

we have designed the configuration objects in development system. Now we have to transport these objects to our other systems (Quality, integration..). We have used two business components DMD_Dev and WMB_Dev as our sender and receiver respectively. When we transport these objects to our other system, We want the names of these business components to be DMD_Int and WMB_Int. Can we do the transportation of these configuration objects using any of the transport systems such as CTS+ , CMS or TMS?

Regards,

Amarnath.

Hi Amar

i think business components are not transported. you can transport only business system.you should provide the generic name to all these type of components.

you can refer to the following thread

No its not possible for Bussiness Components....

Yes u can transport these config objects using CTS+ or TMS...

can the business components be transported to other systems with the option to change the names of business components to our required names using CTS+ ,CMS or TMS?

Note that If your 'business component' is not a Business system then it is not possible to do it via a transport and you will require to manually configure it.

NO...therefore u have always have to create a generic name which can be used in all the environments (DEV, QA, PROD)

is there anything we can do to transport these object using any of the transport systems.

Doing manually is highly time consuming as we have created a lot of configuration objects in our development system.

We have 5 systems (Quality ,staging, testing ,integration...) where we need to do the transportation of these objects.

So any suggestion on this will be highly appreciated as it will be very helpful for us..

any suggestion please ?

As the difference between Business Component and business system being business sysyem is one where details of which are registered in SLD where as the details of business component are not known to us. So if we get the details of the system we can do any changes to the component or may be we can use the business component as business system . with these can we do any modification in SLD with respect to business systems and business components so that we can use any of the transport systems that are available to transport the configuration objects,,

Please help...

Hi,

When you designed your flows, you did not choose the good option: Business System vs Business Component.

As everybody said to you, with Business Component, there is NO way to convert automatically the BC_Dev to BC_Qua.

You have only two solutions:

1. after the transport, to change the config of your flow(s) to replace MANUALLY your Business Component BC_Dev by BC_Qua.

or

2. in your dev System, to change the config of your flow(s) to replace MANUALLY your Business Component BC_Dev by a Business System BS_Dev, after having creating it in your SLD dev. And then in your SLD to affect a BS_Qua to your BS_Dev by using the transport group.

To resume:

¤ Business System: Declared in SLD => We can affect to it a Transport Group.

Thanks to Transport Group, a BS_Dev can be automatically converted to a BS_Qua during the transport. And So we have not to change manually the the PI config flow in PI quality system.

¤ Business Component: NOT declared in SLD => no transport group => No automatic convertion of BC_Dev -> BC_Qua !!

So in PI qua, you have the same name for your Business Component (e.g BC_Dev).

That's why, when we want to distinguish Dev / Qua / Prod systems for a third-Party, we never use a Business Component, but a Business System.

Courage, and do your manual changes.

Are you saying that the already created business components can be changed to Business systems and these systems can be easily used for transportation of configuration objects to various other systems( Qua, prod....)?

is this the best available solution in the present scenario?

Hi,

Are you saying that the already created business components can be changed to Business systems and these systems can be easily used for transportation of configuration objects to various other systems( Qua, prod....)?

You can re-write your flow at any time, with any objects. So yes, you can do it. (*)

is this the best available solution in the present scenario?

You want info like "Dev" / "Qua" / "Prod" associated to your third-Party, so the best pratice is to use Business System.

If you use a Business Component with info like "Dev" / "Qua" / "Prod", as already said, you have to change it manually in PI qua, then in PI pre-Prod, then in PI Prod. (*) And in few weeks/months, when you will have to transport an update/correction of your flow, if you keep your Business Component, you will have to do again these manual actions in PI qua, then in PI pre-Prod, then in PI Prod... So do what you want... but Business System is THE solution to be used.

(*) in both cases, this is the same action: to change in your flow the sender/receiver system (third-party):

1. from BC_Dev to BS_Dev, in Dev, if you change your Business Component by a Business System.

2. from BC_Dev to BC_Qua, in all PI environment (except Dev), if you keep your Business Component.

Hi Muni,

no, it's manual, as there is no magic "rename" button.

Hi Mickael, thank you for your reply.considor the above scenario in the development system i have a business system called MDM_Dev and in the quality system i have a business system called MDM_Int. I wanted a link which will be helpful to transport the objects of development business system MDM_Dev to quality business system MDM_Int.because if i transport the objects of development MDM_Dev to quality system then it will be imported in the quality system under the business system called MDM_Dev.not in the MDM_Int.

you need to setup transport paths and groups in your SLD.

You can then assign DMD_Int as the target for DMD_Dev and WMB_Int for WMB_Dev in your business systems.
