Hi Can any body explain me what is a virtual Infocube with Services(with one scenario please)?

but can u explain what is the exact differance between RemoteCube and VirtualInfocube with services?

why VirtualInfocube with Services function is more useful for SEM systems?plz explain me a scenario when one should go for virtualInfocube with Services and Remote cube?

Hi,

Virtual cubes represent a logical view. Data are not stored in BW, they are transferred from a source system only after a query has been executed. They may be of three types:

1. SAP RemoteCube. Direct Access to transactional data in another SAP system. You don't need to keep data in BW. You may get up-to-date data. But only small quantity of data is transferred (performance). And only a few users may work with queries at any one time.

2. General RemoteCube. For non-SAP systems reporting. Data are transferred from external system to the OLAP processor via the BAPI.

3. Virtual InfoCube with services. A user-defined function module is used as a data source.

As an example of scenario of using cubes with services look at:

The doc shows an example of presenting a custom balance sheet and profit & loss account with using standard business content infocubes and functional module that retrieves and transforms data to a custom format.

I think that the cubes with services are little used in ordinary way because you can do a lot of data transformation in TRs, URs and in BEx Query Designer. In SEM (now - in BW) you can transform the primary data in way you want using FMs, play with them in BPS and then save.

Hi Eugene,

When I try to run the query which is on virtual cube with services ( its totals record virtual cube for BCS) I get the following error message (I can run other queries that I checked):

<internal error> Receiving from the BW server failed

BW server raised exception: SYSTEM_FAILURE

Do you want to see more information

When I click to see more information the message is

Error Group

RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE

Message

Exception condition "INHERITED_ERROR" raised.

I have got some notes but its not helping me.

I am not able to understand why this error is comming . I check i have done that if remove hierarchy variables from query the query is executing but with it its giving error.

infact the above problem is comming for all the qureries on virtual cube.

pls respond to this ASAP.
