Single Level vs Multi Level BOM for Production Routing

Dear All,

My company is currently using Multi-Level BOM in PP. We have Finished Goods which are composed from several Semi-Finished Goods. The Semi-Finished Goods are in turn composed from Raw Materials. We have defined BOM and Routings for each of these Semi-Finished Goods and goods issue and receipt needs to be performed for each of these Production Orders.

With the current structure, a lot of Production Orders needs to be created for each Finished Good as we have to create one for each Semi-Finished Goods. I am currently considering to use Single Level BOM where I will put all the components to the Finished Material BOM.

The advantage is that we only need to create one production order for each Finished Good.

However, I would like to ask will it be possible to perform Goods Receipt for the each of the Semi-Finished Goods for the Single Level BOM scenario. As my customer would like to keep track of the stock level of all the Semi-Finished Goods. I tried putting negative quantity in the BOM and make the Semi-Finished Good as a by-product, but this will use movement type 531.

Can anyone please help.

Thanks.
