Any of the three SNP methods can and are used across industries. That said, Heuristics is used extensively in distribution intensive industries - typically Consumer Products, Medical Products, Food Distribution, etc. CTM was originally used more in the Semiconductor industry but is now used by almost every industry where constrained planning is a must. The optimizer is the least used method and is used by process industries such as Paper/ Mill/ Oil & Gas, etc which are cost sensitive.
But to re-iterate, these tools along with the PPDS heuristics/ optimizer are a bouquet of options that SAP provides for Supply Planning. You should pick and choose based on requirements and functionality fit, rather than deciding based on Industry.
