Depreciation start date earlier than capitalized date

Former Member

my user reported one issue, they have settled CIP to fixed asset (tcode AIAB and AIBU),they found capitalized date in AA master is 2011.09.30,its correct, according to period control, depreciation start date should be 2011.10.01,but however, depre start date is 2010.10.01, one year ealie then the expected date

i am wondering how it can happen, because no reason to have depreciation start date earlier than asset capitalized date

It can happen the way you mentioned, although it should be caught by astute accountant.

The "First acquisition on" date is populated from the Asset Value Date coming with the subledger acquisition transaction.

It can not be manually set.

However, the "Capitalized on" date can be manually set. It can also be set by referencing, i.e., copying another asset to create the asset you are concerned with. The "Capitalized on" date should be adjusted to be correct, if the record is created by referencing another asset.

Now, here comes the tricky part. If you change the "Capitalized on" date, you must also change the Ordinary Depreciation Start Date on the "Deprec areas" tab for all depreciation areas, since the date flows from the "Capitalized on" date only if the ODepStart date on "Deprec areas" is blank. It will not update from 2010 to become 2011; you must change it.

SAP will not behave like what you said

Probably asset date value entered as 2010.10.01 instead of 2011.10.01 at AIBU

Or there could be changes in Asset Master data...check changes at Asset Master/Environment/On asset and on field

Change the ordinary dep start date back to 2011.10.01 to restore normalcy

I had the same doubt before, and i have already checked change history and asset document.everything is ok,because we have two depreciations,01 is for US GAAP,,and 02 is for Local GAAP,

derep area o1 has the expected depre start date.

if user entered wrong value date in AIBU,depre 01 should be wrong too.

Hi,

You compare anyother asset, where the same DEP KEY of questioned asset is in use.

If there, then check for the other asset's DEP start date for SAID dep area.

In case for both assets, the same issue is there, then the problem with the PERIOD CONTROL METHOD, which is assigned to the questioned asset's DEP KEY.

Check in ACQ part, what period control method you have used. (AFAMP)
