    Hi,

    Here are your answers:

    Difference:

Crystal Reports and Business Objects Enterprise are two different products. While Crystal Reports is a reporting tool, Business Objects Enterprise is the Server product and in a way you can say that it manages the reports created in different reporting tools; that's just a part of what it does by the way!

    Versions

For every Crystal Reports version there is an equivalent Business Objects version too. I mean if we have CR 2008 SP3, then there is BO XI 3.1 SP3. If there is CR 2008 SP4 there is BO XI 3.1 SP4; and we recommend that both these products are on the same patch level.

    Installation

Since Crystal Reports is a reporting tool and is GUI based, it will work only on the Windows flavors (XP, Vista, 7, Windows Server, etc); support for new OSs is added in Service Packs, so make sure you check the supported platforms guide to make sure it is supported on the OS you're trying to install.

Business Objects on the other can only be installed on Server OSs. It can be installed on Windows Servers, Linux, Solaris etc.

    Licensing

Crystal Reports and Business Objects Enterprise both have separate licenses. Crystal Reports 2008 comes in one flavor only, the Developer edition, so, you pay and you get everything!

Business Objects on the other hand has a few flavours, Business Objects Enterprise, Business Objects Edge, Crystal Reports Server with each flavor having some or limited functionalities from Business Objects Enterprise.

    Hope this answers the queries!
