Batch Number field change from 10 - 15/20 characters

Is it possible to change the number of characters in the batch number field from standard 10 to 15+ characters? We have suppliers which use 10+ batch numbers and numbers are being entered manually and errors are occuring. We need to be able to scan all batches into warehouse with the full batch numbers. It may not be possible for some suppliers to change their batch number configuration and I want to eliminate the need to enter batch numbers manually and goods in.

What would the knock on effect to the system is this change was possible?

Thanks,

F

How do you get over the problem of supplier batch codes being more than 10 characters with losing traceability of the materials used?

Have you thought about using the classification system?

hi,

Better to move with some work around by User exit etc. bcoz it is not possible in std. SAP system , secondly if required than may use classification system also.

We had same requirements to enter supplier batch which was more than 10 char long...

So we created class chara called supplier batch and assigned to batch class, where business enter supplier long batch number for tracking...

In SAP standard field business truncate batch number & enter 10 char only..so this way you can track long batch number easily..

I'm just wondering if it's possible to scan an EAN-128 barcode encoded with the batch number of more than ten characters into SAP. If there is a work around via manually entering the batch where would I direct our SAP Admin Team a solution is there implications to the system and existing data with this change.

thanks,

F

Yes, it is possible to scan batch number and enter in SAP, but this is not SAP standard solution.

You have to work with developer to find possible user exit or enhancement object and develop interface to pop-up batch number in SAP field.

Yes. SAP has sveral OSS notes that can be applied to utilize longer batch numbers.

Have your folks do a search in OSS.

Maybe someone here might know the actual note number.
