Information Steward 4.09 installation scenario

Hi experts,

I am given 3 servers to deploy the following products:

SAP BO BIP 4.0

SAP Data Services 4.0

SAP Information Steward 4.0

My main objective is to distribute the work load evenly into 3 servers. FYI, the BIP server will be handling thousands of concurrent users when it goes live.

These are the summary of the deployment into 3 servers so far.

Server 1 (Repository Server)

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2

- SAP BO BIP CMS Repository and Audit database (BOE)

- SAP Data Services Repository

Server 2 (BIP/CMS)

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

SAP BO BIP 4.0 (BOE) 4.0

SAP BO Data Services 4.0

- DS EIM APS services

- DS Management Console

Server 3 (Data Services)

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

SAP BO Data Services 4.0

- DS Job Server

- DS Access Server

My initial plan was to have Information Steward installed on Server 3 but it's not possible based on the installation guide page 14: u201CThe Information Steward web application must be installed on the same web application server as that of the SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform.u201D

I am now planning to have it install on Server 2 but the I can't proceed as well, since I've configured the DS Job server and DS Access Server in a separate server.

So what should I do now?

Any comment on how I've deployed the BIP and Data Services?

Where and how should I install Information Steward with minimal impact on the Server 2?

Information Steward installation is tricky and buggy because it depends on both Data Services and BI Platform. Basically Information Steward needs the BI/IPS Platform for their APS/AJS and web application server. And it needs Data Services for the real jobs i.e profiling.

In your scenario, you can install APS & AJS on Server 3 and continue to install all components of Information Steward on server 3 except the web application component. Once this is done, you can install the Information Steward web application component on Server 2. But to have this Information Steward web application installed, you need to have DS Job Server installed on the Server 2 as the installer needs DS Job Server as a pre-requisite for primary IS installation. You can't select the expand option in installation as the expand option can't be selected in the machine where the CMS is run locally.

Hi Jimmy,

I don't think you need go and install information steward in Server 2 because you have better option.

Install the Web Tier Component of BI Platform in Server 3

Install the AJS, APS of BI Platform in Server 3

This will ensure you meet the pre-requsite of having BI Web Tier and Processing Tier (AJS and APS) to be available along with DS Job Server for Information steward to be installed.

Now when you install the information steward in Server 3 install the Web Tier along th Information Steward Processing Tier.

All said and done I would like to hear back from you on what you did to address your requirement if you have already found a solution for your problem.
