BOE 3.1 SP3 infoview Blank Print Box

Hello everyone,

My company is being increasingly plagued by the infamous Blank Print Box in Infoview when trying to 1-button print reports. Users can always export to file and print as a work-around however, they are complaining about the extra few steps. And, I agree with them that it is lost functionality.

I have read multiple threads on other forums, found the printcontrol.cab file, added the server as a domain trust, changed active-x settings for many users and am still unable to resolve it for most of my users.

My company used to be a windows xp pro shop with IE6 and IE 7. Now we're moving into a Windows 7 Pro 32/64-bit shop with IE 8 and every user is experiancing something a little different.

Some users get prompted to install the digitally signed BusinessObjects active-x control, and they can print no problem (such as myself on a windows 7-64bit IE8 machine). However, similarly setup users will recieve an active-x box that says the active-x control is unsigned and from an unknown publisher and will not install. When I tell the IE settings to allow unsigned controls, sometimes windows blocks it or just doesn't do anything. Almost all users with the issue will be left with the blank print box at the end of the process and are unable to 1 button print click.

I know my environment is changing, and there may be some odd cross between BOXI, windows, IE8, and group policy at work here. However, I have been unable to narrow this down to any one area. I have resolved this for a few customers, where the solution was unique to the individual machine however, over the last few weeks, I have not been able to resolve this at all, for many of my users.

One thing I can do is in the infoview preferences for the end user, is change their preferences for crystal reports from "web (no downloading)" to "Web ActiveX (active X required)" or to "Web java (java Required)" and this solves the problem for some users. However, this changes the way Infoview works and feels alittle bit. There are now new pop-up windows that the end user must re-size, expand and deal with rather than haveing everything display in one nice neat window.

This is a real pain for sure.

Is anyone else out there running into similar issues? This feels like a dynamically cascading issue which boggles me.

thank you all.
