NWDI Performance Problems

Hello Experts!

We have enormous performance problems with our NWDI.

Our NWDI is runnning on a SAP Solution-Manager System (Double - Stack - System).

NWDI is running on the Java-Stack of our Solution Manager.

First of all I have created a new TRACK in CMS with the following Software-Components:

SAP_BUILD 7.30, SAP_ENGFACADE 7.30.

When I want to import these Software-Components at the tabs "Development" and "Consolidation", it takes about 15 minutes to import each Software-Component.

After 15 MInutes, I get a exception, called "Lock Exception".

com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.session.LockException: Thread SAPEngine_Application_Thread impl:3 15 failed to acquire exclusive lock on client session ClientSession(id=(xxxxxxxxXXX_XX)IDXXXXX). Existing locks: LockingManager(ThreadName:SAPEngine_Application_Threadimpl:3_15, exclusive client session lock: ClientSessionLock(SAPEngine_Application_Thread impl:3_37), shared client session locks: ClientSessionSharedLockManager(), app session locks: ApplicationSessionLockManager(), current request: sap.com/tcSLCMS~WebUI/Cms).Hint: Take a thread dump of the server node to find the blocking thread that causes the problem.

I searched in the SDN for solving this problem and found out, that the problem is described in SAP Note 1234847.

First of all, I will restart the J2EE of our Solution Manager this evening....

Do you think that helps or is it useless to restart the J2EE?

Thank you very much for helping.

Best Reagards.

Hi,

please use http://<host>:<port>/nwa/sysinfo (not only http://<host>:<port>/nwa) then you'll find the Components tab.

Cheers,

Ervin

Hi,

I understood your question but I don't know the answer since I am no installation expert. I have limited knowledge on topics related to SP Stacks (like I know for instance that the upgrade of SCs musn't be done separately only for the entire stack) but I am lacking knowledge and experience to go into details, for this please turn to other forums for assistance.

Thank you for your understanding and Best Regards,

Ervin

Hello Maximilian,

I am afraid you need to ask this question from an installation expert, perhaps you can raise this question in a different forum.

Hello Ervin.

I have asked this question also in the following forum:

SAP Community Network Forums » SAP Solutions » SAP Solution Manager

What I would like to know from you:

Can you help me, when I have patched only my Java-Stack from SP8 to SP10, or do I have to patch our whole Solution Manager, in order to get help from you?

Thank you very much.

Best Regards.

Hello Maximilian,

we are supporting only complete SP Stack Upgrade. We cannot provide support in case Software Components -- having the same release, e.g. 701 -- are upgraded separately. Under the word upgrade I mean raising the SP level of software components. Raising the Patch Levels of software components separately is allowed (even rollback is allowed) but the same is not true for the Support Packages. I cannot say for sure that the performance issue is due to the inconsistent SP Stack (however this is my strong guess) but I can say for sure that we cannot provide you support until the SP Stack is inconsistent.

Please ask your basis to raise the SP Stack (i.e. all the Software Components which have release 701) to SP10 and get back to me in case the performance issue is still there.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best Regards,

Ervin

Hello Ervin.

I have contected my SAP-Basis....

First of all, I would like to give you a more detailled overview about our landscape:

- SAP Soluation Manager 7.01 SPS27, Dual-Stack-System

- Installed Products:

+ ABAP-Stack: Solution Manager

+ Java-Stack: SLD, NWDI

Our ABAP-Stack is on SP8, our Java-Stack on SP8, too.

As you know is the SP-Level of DI_CMS, DI_CBS and DI_DTR on SP10,

the whole rest of the Java-Stack-Software-Compoents is on SP8.

So:

Our SAP-Basis only wants to udgrade the Java-Stack from SP8 to SP10, not the ABAP-Stack

My Question now is the following:

Are there any risks / is it adisable to patch only the Java-Stack from SP8 to SP10 and not both Stacks from SP8 to SP10 ?

If you know the answer, please could you give me an evidence, which I can send to my SAP-Basis?

Thank you very much for helping.

Best Regards.

Hi,

well, the LockeException is reported by CMS and you have an unsupported NWDI constellation, so I would not proceed until you resolve this inconsistency. Even if on your sandbox system you have the same SP stack, it is still not supported.

Hello Ervin.

Please can you give me an evidence, that our NWDI constellation is not supported.

I believe, you are right with your answer.

I only need an evidence to show our SAP-Basis, that they HAVE to update all remaining Software-Components to SP10,

as the version is of DI_CMS, DI_CBS and DI_DTR.

Thank you very much for helping.

Best regards.

Hello Maximilian,

please use SDN for communication, not email. Thanks for your understanding. If there is any confidental information you would not like to share here on SDN, then open an SAP ticket.

I can see the problem though, exactly what I have suspected. Have a look at the ComponentInfo page you sent me via mail.

You will see that CMS, DTR and CBS are on SP<X+2> while the rest is on SP<X>.

This setup is not supported and this is the reason for the performance issue around CMS.

Since downgrade is not supported either, the solution is to raise the remaining components also to SP<X+2>.

Please do not undeploy the SP<X+2> components and do not attempt to redeploy the SP<X> version of them (even if this sounds like a shortcut) because you will face critical problems later.

Best Regards,

Ervin

Hello Ervin.

Thank you very much for replying so fast.

I have found out something new:

We have another NWDI (For Development, kind of sandbox), also installed on a SAP Solution Manager, JAVA-Stack.

On this NWDI there are NO Performance Problems, but there are exactly the same Software Components Versions installed as on our other NWDI, where the Performance-Problems exist??

So do you think, you answer is the solution for this problem?

Thank you very much for helping solving our problem.

Best Regards.

Hi,

the engine restart won't change on this behaviour.

As I can see the guilty thread is about CMS. Could you please send me the version of your SP Stack?

http://<host>:<port>/nwa/sysinfo -- tab "Components". Here I am interested in the components of (DI_CMS, DI_DTR and DI_CBS) AND (the SP of the rest of the SCs).

If we cannot see any suspicious here then perhaps you can make a try to increase the maxwaitinterval parameter. See the same note for details.

Please also check if the overall load is high on your system where NWDI is deployed and running (on windows check the taskmanager, if this is unix, then send the output of the command "uptime").

Ervin

Hello Ervin.

I can not find a tab called "Components" in the NWA.

I can only see the following three "buttons" in the NWA:

- Administration

- Monitoring

- Configuration

Best Regards.
