Archiving: ADK vs NLS

Hi All,

As far as I know, ADK is the standard way to do BW archiving, the data which has been archived will be deleted from the infoprovder. You have to re-load them from flat file if you need them in the query.

for the NLS method, the data can be shown in the query without re-loading process.

My question will be :

how to implement NLS archiving and is there any requirement for it?

thank you in advance.

Hello,

In my project, NLS is implemented and we have developed good understanding in NLS.

NLS is really good archiving procedure.

with NLS The ‘Archive’ is getting the attitude of a database. Its colum store technology is good and the reporting is quite fast.

No idea on ADK.

Thanks,

Jaydip

Hi,

Using data archiving, you can store the data in any of the database for ex:-Unix server, this can be archived by using any time char. or primary key combination defined using SARA transaction. Here you can also define the option to reload the data back to the DSO/Cube, then only the data can be reverted back to the target.

Check here [Data Archiving in Business Intelligence 7.0|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/409e7ce8-cbd8-2b10-c1ae-e27696c333c7]

You can create an archiving request for active data archiving processes. With data archiving processes that store the data in near-line storage, you can create a request, lock the selection area, write the data to near-line storage, verify the storage, and delete the data from the InfoProvider. If, for any reason, your requirements have changed, at any point before the verification, you can mark the request as invalid. Once the request has completed all the individual steps involved and the overall status is on green, you can reload the data back into the InfoProvider if required. This is only necessary, however, in exceptional cases.

Check the [DB2 Near-Line Storage Solution for SAP NetWeaver BW|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/a0ab27dc-13e3-2c10-83a7-d602adb016a2]

Hope this helps...
