Hi,
I am new to upgades in SAP PI.
We are doingan upgrade from SAP PI7.1 to SAP PI 7.3.
Can you please let me know the steps fro this upgrade process along with the transports?
The only thing I know is that while upgrading from SAP PI7.1 to SAP PI7.3 following things are applicable
1.There are 2 types of PI7.3 installations, single Java stack and standard PI dual stack
2.If we go for single Java stack installation, then all the objects except for ccBPM can be transported without any issue
3.If we use standard dual stack installation, then all the objects including ccBPM can be transported without any issues.
Please correct me and provide me the steps that are to be followed while upgrading from SAP PI7.1 to SAP PI7.3.
Thanks in advance

Hi Venkata and Udo,
Thanks for the replies.
Venkata,
I have no access to service marketplace, can you please provide me the steps and how to do it when it comes to transporting the objects from SAP PI7.1 environment to SAP PI7.3 environment.
Do we need to do it as follows
1.PI7.1 Development --->PI7.3 Development
2.PI7.1 Quality to PI7.3 Quality
3.PI7.1 Production to PI7.3 Production
Or simply transport it from PI7.1 Development to PI7.3 Development and from PI7.3 Development to PI7.3 Quality and from there to PI7.3 Production.
While doing the transport from PI7.1 Development to PI7.3 Development, that is the first,we can transport the objects in the following way
Simply export the objects from PI7.1 Development to the desktop as .tpz files and import them in PI7.3 ,right?
Can you please tell me how to do it for configuration objects as well as the transports of the objects?
Thanks in advance

Hello Shweta,
There are 2 things,
1) It depends on how you use to transport in your previous landscape, are you using CTS+? or you were just downloading .tpz files and importing it in other Qa or PRD server.
2) You have to just transport the object from PI 7.1 dev to PI 7.3 dev, rest to PI 7.3 QA and PRd, it should go from PI 7.3 dev.
So configure the transport route between your PI 7.1 to PI 7.3 dev and transport it or use alternative is Simply export the objects from PI7.1 Development to the desktop as .tpz files and import them in PI7.3 dev..
I will also suggest you to get S-user id for yourself.

Hi Vikrant and Amit,
Thanks for the replies.
I got some idea about the processes that can be followed in the upgrade from SAP PI7.1 to SAP PI7.3.
I have the following questions
1.What sort of upgrade to be follwed the Enhancement Package(EHP) of SAP PI7.1 ?
2.Does the process of upgrade vary with the EHP?
3.As far as transport is concerned, how should the upgrade be done for File and CTS+ transport?
4.Just exporting the objects to the desktop from SAP PI7.1 as .tpz and importing them in SAP PI7.3,is some sort of CTS+ transport?
5.How to transport using FIle Transport?
6.Can you please provide me the SAP PI specific transport process?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
> 2.Does the process of upgrade vary with the EHP?
No (very few times little bit changes we need to do)
> 3.As far as transport is concerned, how should the upgrade be done for File and CTS+ transport?
SAP recommends CTS+
> 4.Just exporting the objects to the desktop from SAP PI7.1 as .tpz and importing them in SAP PI7.3,is some sort of CTS+ transport?
CTS+ is ABAP based transport, once we export it gives request number, BASIS will release that request number.
> 5.How to transport using FIle Transport?
Export objects to export folder in the same server (Dev) then BASIS will copy the same file to QA/Prod import folder then we need to import that file.

Hi Venkata,
Thanks for the quick reply.
As per my understanding, when we use CTS+ transport,we need to adjust some changes in communication channels transported, right?
Means,I a communication cahnnel is transported form SAP PI7.1 Production environment to SAP PI7.3 Development environment, then the changes/configuration dor that communication channel in SAP PI7.1 production should be replicated as it is in SAP PI7.3 Development manually? If so,what sort of configuration is it,any ECC server ,RFC destination details?
Also, does it need to be done for all the communication channels? If not, then which are the communication channels it is ti be done for?
Thanks in advance
Hello Shweta,
CTS+ configuration doesnt need any ECC server.
Its the way through which you can use ABAP stack of PI to control the transports of JAVA stack.
So I will suggest you to follow the documents provided by Venkat to configure CTS+ and use PI 7.1 as domain controller. After that you have to assign transport route through PI ABAP stack only, which will point to PI 7.3.
Once its done try to send your transports to PI 7.3 dev system.
Hope it helps,

When you transport PI 7.1 production to PI 7.3 development environment, it is obvious you have to manually change the technical details such as IP address, port, RFC destination name , user credentials (user/pwd) etc for all channels, if any. Hope you understand. As you know each environment has specific connection details... So it will be different for development and production.

Means, wherever there is any such reference,it should be done manually for any adapter wherever applicable, right?
Do we need to reimplement the proxies and ccBPM as it cannot be transported to SAP PI7.3 directly?
Thanks in advance

yes.
>Do we need to reimplement the proxies and ccBPM as it cannot be transported to SAP PI7.3 directly?
You don't need to reimplement proxies. The proxy coding is part of ecc transport.
Are you using dual stack in 7.3, if so then you can transport CCBPM in 7.3. If it is java stack, CCBPM transport is not seamless. PI 7.3 uses BPMN format.

How to transport proxies from SAP PI7.1 to SAP PI7.3?

Can you please let me know how different SAP PI7.3 BPMN format is from SAP PI 7.1 ccBPM?Any blog will be helpful.
Thanks in advance
What ever you developed in PI7.1 proxy stuff would work in PI7.3 tooo, trasport mechanism you can use any one File or CTS based trasports(search in sdn abt trsports).
ccBPM cannot be transported from SAP PI7.1 to SAP PI7.3 directly and it should be reimplemented in SAP PI7.3,right?
if you are using dual stack PI 7.3 then ccBPM scenarios will work.
Can you please let me know how different SAP PI7.3 BPMN format is from SAP PI 7.1 ccBPM?Any blog will be helpful.
If youa re using single stack PI7.3 then you need to develop ccBPM scenarios once again using BPMN notataions and BMPNotations are similar like ccBPM steps using that we will build flow of interface,
there are many documents available on BPMN in sdn, search in sdn.

Hi Raja Sekhar,
Thanks for the quick reply.
if you are using dual stack PI 7.3 then ccBPM scenarios will work
.
Means, single java stack installation does not support ccBPM at all, right?

exactly,correct.
how to transport the proxies from SAP PI7.1 to SAP PI7.3?Do we need to reimplement the proxies in SAP PI7.3?
trasport your proxies scenarios to PI7.3 and if your PI 7.3 system also pointing to same ECC(pointed by 7.1),then proxy configurations need to be changes(RFC destinations ). then you can resuse the same proxy code.

Raj

Can you please elaborate the trasport mechanism for ABAP as well as as Java proxy transport from SAP PI7.1 to SAP PI7.3?
then you can resuse the same proxy code.
Is it about ABAP codeor Java code?
What if there is only single jva stack installation?
Will it support ABAP codes as well?If not then how to do it on single Java stack installation?
I thik ABAP proy is supported on dual stack SAP PI7.3 installation, right?
Thanks in advance

Hello Shweta,
There are two versions of PI 7.3
There are two options:
1) a Java only version (it is possible to use new java based IDoc and HTTP adapters with this version)
2) ABAP and Java (same as current 7.1 release)
and PI 7.3 java only flavor does not support ccBPM> how do we transport the SAP PI Java Proxy objects( basically the EJB and EAR files)
You have to create an SDA file for your Java proxy, which you deploy with JSPM to dev. Then you can use CTS+ for transport or you can directly provide it to basis people to deploy it in PI 7.3 as well.
Please refer to link :
Hope it helps,

Amit Barnawal
JAVA Proxy code need to redeploy in PI7.3 server then create same type of configurations you had done PI 7.1
ABAP proxy code supported in 7.3 dual stack and single stack but Porxy communication , anyway you develop code in ECC,soonly trasport PI scenarions and change the proxy configuration to point PI 7.3 server.

Raj
Hi Amit,
Thanks for the quick reply.
As per my understanding, single java stack installation does not support ABAP proxies but supports Java Proxy objects, right?
But dual stack installation supports both ABAP proxy objects as well as Java proxy objects, right?
So for single java stack installation, how to conver the .EAR files that is for java proxy to .sda files? and how to deploy it with JSPM to development?
For dual stack installation how to transport the ABAP proxies as well as Java proxies?
For dual stack too,we need to create the .sda files and then need to deploy with JSPM to development?
Also,I for ccBPM transport,as per my understanding the single java stack installation does not support the ccBPM/BPMN concept at all, right?
But dual stack installtion supports the ccBPM concept in the form of BPMN,right?
If so ,can you please elaborate the concept of the BPMN in dual stack installation?
Also, please let me know the ccBPM transport mechanism for dual stack installation.
Thanks in advance
Hi Raja Sekhar,
Thanks for the quick reply.
ABAP proxy code supported in 7.3 dual stack and single stack but Porxy communication , anyway you develop code in ECC,soonly trasport PI scenarions and change the proxy configuration to point PI 7.3 server.
Is it the same as mentioned in this blog
But in case of ABAP proxy we need to write the code in ABAP ,so what about the ABAP code?
Also for Java proxy ,what about the Java code?
Thanks in advance
if you are migrating PI 7.3 from older versions then ABAP /JAVA proxy code allready there, you no need to redevelop it,that is what i meant.
JAVA proxy code in older version to be redeployed on PI 7.3 server.
ABAP Proxy code available in ECC,so no need to touch anything, and change proxy configurations to point PI 7.3 server.

Raj
Hi Raja Sekhar,
Thanks for the quick reply.
JAVA proxy code in older version to be redeployed on PI 7.3 server.
How to redeploy it?
Do we need to convert the .ear java proxy into .sda and with JSPM we need to deploy it into SAP PI7.3?
ABAP Proxy code available in ECC,so no need to touch anything, and change proxy configurations to point PI 7.3 server.
ECC of what?single stack installation?Does it support it?
Thanks in advance
have a look
http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BPX/ProcessModelingWith+BPMN
I dont think there is any blog written BPMN ralted to PI like how to implement ccBPM Scenaros in PI 7.3 single stack.

Raj
