Change decimal places from 2 to 4 in the quantity fields KOMV-KAWRT

Hi Experts,

Is it possible to change the decimal places in quantity field from 2 to 4. My client wants to change decimal place from 2 to 4 in field KOMV-KAWRT (condition base value). This is a quantity field. If yes, how much impact would it have in other modules and other sales orders/POs. I do have feeling that it is not recommended to change Sap standard fields.

I appreciate your replies.

Ja

Hi Ja,

Can you specify the business requirement for trying to do so?

Hi Naneen,

The prices maintained are in Metric Tonn (MT), but quantity entered in KG. So, when sales order is entered, the system converts the quntity from KG to MT before calculating the prices. so, when system converts KG into MT, system gets quntity in 4 decimal places. For example, if quntity is 10,432.20 KG in sales order, system at the time of pricing converts it into MT that is 10.4323 MT. The fields KAWART can only accomodate 10.43 or 10.432MT thereby losing the last digit. That last digit does not come under calculation and that results in losing few cents in the sales order.

I suggested to the client that they should use quntity instead of per MT, per 1000 KG, but client needs everything to reflect in their FI posting as well as in customer invoice in MT. I hope my explanation makes sense.

Any help will be great.

Thanks,

What is the base unit of measure in the material master? You can maintain sales UOM as KG in the material master sales view. What you have proposed in the correct solution. It is always good to maintain the pricing at the lowest UOM, so that the decimal issue can be avoided. For example $1,000 per 100KG. Do a testing with FI posting after maintaining sale UOM in the material master. Otherwise changing the SAP standard decimals for the field is NOT advisible. Check OSS Note 38881 - Pricing with different decimal places to see whether it helps your scenario.

Thanks but base unit of measure are already in KG in material master. So, I think I don't need to set sales unit of measure again as KG.

Hi

Shiva is right. You have a lot of possibilities to avoid the problems of rounding, that it's an usual trouble in SAP. The best way to avoid this troubles is mantain conditions for big quantities when the value by unit is low. Other thing is that endusers remember that they must do it. I suggest you other useful notes.

SAP Note 80183 - Rounding

SAP Note 886532 - Pricing: Displaying and rounding numbers

and as a curiosity, SAP Note 877829 - Rounding for tax conditions. It is a sample that how you can create other logics in rounding (in this case by legal requirements).

I hope this helps you

Regards

Eduardo
