EP 6.0 Support Stack 11 problem

During the application of SP 11 on EP 6.0, the installation hangs during Start J2EE Engine process (second to last) with a message in the trace file stating:

Portal Deploy Monitor: Portal Application Deployment (0 of 13 files done. 0 with errors. Time elapsed: 160 seconds).

I have stopped the installation and restarted the J2EE and everything came up fine. I restarted SAPInst and it still hangs at the same place. I have looked inside the SDM and it does not seem to have anything ready to deploy. Has anyone had any experience with this issue? Do you thing the installation went fine? If so, how do I check to make sure? Can I look at the version of certain deployed objects to see if they were actuall deployed?

I have seen such behaviour before - it is strange. You should figure out which .ept these par files came from first - move the par files out of the deployment directory and use SDM to re-deploy the full ept. This will put the files back in the deployment directory, update deploy that there are files to deploy, and should allow the J2EE to deploy them on a restart.

Thanks Nick, it would seem that I made a mistake. I accidently applied SP 11 Patch 3 instead of just SR 11. I applied SR 11 and the portal mostly works now....mostly.

More info...Doing some more research I think I found the 13 files SAPInst is refering to The following .par file are located in the ..\irj\servlet_jsp\irj\root\WEB-INF\deployment\pcd directory:

com.sap.portal.applications.enterprise.iviews.par

com.sap.portal.applications.enterprise.iviews.wizard.par

com.sap.portal.design.dataprovider.par

com.sap.portal.design.themepartregistration.par

com.sap.portal.desktop.desktopservice.par

com.sap.portal.ivs.iviewservice.oldpcm.par

com.sap.portal.ivs.iviewservice.par

com.sap.portal.ivs.logger.par

com.sap.portal.ivs.unittesting.par

com.sap.portal.themes.designservice.par

com.sap.portal.themes.lafservice.par

com.sap.portal.themes.mppservice.par

com.sap.portal.themes.styleservice.par

I tried restarting the Java server and the files do not seem to deploy themselves. I checked the Visual Administrator and the Deploy service is running fine. Anyone have any ideas?

So I restarted the process again and I still receive the same type of errors. This time I noticed a Warning (not an erro) message which states.

WARNING 2005-04-21 10:46:32

CJSlibModule::writeWarning_impl() Portal Deployment Monitor Warning: No EPT file list specified.

any ideas?

Actually, I am able to start and stop the server fine. I guess what I really want to know is how can I tell if the correct packages were actually deployed?

Hi Shaun,

I have not experienced this error but it appears for some reason it can't start the server.

I suggest you try manually starting the server (don't stop the sapinst) at the step using the MMC.

Then if the sapinst doesn't move to the next step stop the sapinst (not reset) and ensuring that the server is started try the resume option with sapinst.

Hope it helps.

Regards

Daniel
