We are in the process of setting up EPIC's Healthcare software and purchased BO XI 3.1 for the reporting. And one of the topics is what is the best practice for managing the data connection to redirect from server to server. Each report will have to move through 3 servers, ClarityPOC (development) server, then once logos are on them and they are tested we need to move them to Clarity_QA (test) and then again to Clarity_Prod (production) server.
Thanks,
Phil
Hi Phil,
There are couple of ways to move the objects from Dev to QA followed by Production.
1). LCM Method, where you need to install software and add the Dev, QA and Prod and move the Objects as Hakim said.
Here are some more documents to refer

http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/xi31_LCM_User_en.pdf
2). Another method is Import Wizard
In this method, you don't need LCM tool, In the installed BO, there is a wizard called import wizard where you can move the objects around.
If your Version of BI is 4.0 then LCM is integrated in BOBJ.
Here is the screenshots for Import Wizard.

I looked through the screenshots in the url below and there was nothing about adding database connections to the reports as they were moved to the new system. So perhaps the LCM product does this.
It doesn't look like the LCM tool is my solution either. I am afraid I did not explain my problem very well.
We got 696 crystal reports when we bought the Epic Systems software for our hopsitals. They all point to a database that does not exist in our environment but I belive they are all MS SQL based. I was hoping to create a system based datasource on my BOE server where the reports sit in InfoView and find a tool to point all those reports to the new datasource without manually having to open each report and add a new datasource. I'll also have to move these reports through atleast two more environments, QA and then Production.
Any suggestions on a best practice for this scenario. Can the reports point to a web based datasource so I can change the datasource in one location to point to each database as we move from test to QA to production? Similar to the way MS SQL server reporting services works?
Hi Phil,
I am not sure, why Import Wizard is crashing and please paste error message if you find anything on Import Wizard.
Import Wizard should work for Migrating reports across the server. You can also try DataSource Migration Wizard.
Please refer to below links

The wizard doesn't see the datasources or the reports aren't set up in a way that the migration software can migrate the reports. I sepnd a couple hours trying to install that rptInspector software and it has all kinds of DLL and OCX issues.
What is the best practice for setting datsources in Crystal 2008. Should i use a file as the source for all the reprot and then just update the database in the file when I need ot migrate?
Sorry, if I understood wrong. Are looking to set Datasource location in the CR2008?
1. Open your report, click on Database, Set DataSource Location and expand the properties. For a report based on an Access MDB file you'll see the fully qualified location to your folder in the "Database Name" property. Right click on it and select Same as Report. Now you'll see ".MYfile.mdb".
Also check this Demo of "CRYSTAL REPORTS: SET DATA SOURCE LOCATION"

Hi Phil!
You can download from the download center link: [https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/~form/handler?_APP=00200682500000002025&_EVENT=DISPLAY&SELAREA=501100035870000016762#]
LCM .. Life Cycle Management
This will transfer objects from A -> B where you can map a different data connection to the unviverse, when items are transferred.
Included is also a Version Management.
Should be covered in you BO Enterprise licence.
