Generic Data Source

Former Member

Hi Gurus,

The note 743357 was applied to the data source 0CO_PC_PCP_03, and the data sources was replicated and loaded in BW. After that a few changes was made to the note so I am trying to replicate and reload the data. I am not sure if I am doing the generic data source extraction in the right way.

After loading the data in BW it gives an error message:

If the source system is a Client Workstation, then it is possible that the file that was to be loaded was being edited at the time of the data request. Make sure that the file is in the specified directory and is not being edited, and restart the request.

How do I proceed with this error. Could somebody explain the steps to be followed for extracting a data source that already exists in BW.

Thanks

Sandhya

Hi guys,

Just trying to see if this is the issue.

In transaction SBIW. Found the data source 0CO_PC_PCP_03. Clicked on Change then saved it. Checked the Data Source. Successfully completed the check.

Used Transaction RSO2. When I give my data source 0CO_PC_PCP_03. And try to Display or Change. It gives me a warning message.

Message no. R§042

The DataSource 0CO_PC_PCP_03 has, until now, been extracted using function module KKBW_PCP_ITEMS_GET_ITEMIZATION. If you use generic extraction maintenance to process and save the DataSource, the extraction takes place using a database view, transparent table, SAP Query functional area, or a self-defined extraction module.

If 0CO_PC_PCP_03 is part of the Content delivered by SAP, you can use function module KKBW_PCP_ITEMS_GET_ITEMIZATION to reactivate the extraction by calling transaction RSA5 or the IMG and copying the Content.

May be this is the issue with extraction. Please confirm and help me out.

HI Sandhya,

Since the data source starts with a 0 I am assuming it is SAP delivered and using RSO2 will not help. Since the datasource is already assigned in BW, you will not see the data source again when you try to "assign data source". Since you have replicated, all you need to do is activate the transfer rules and reload the data.

Thanks everyone for responding soon and helping me out.

I am really sorry for confusing all of you. Let me explain the whole scenario.

The info cube I am using is ZCCB02.

The info source that sits under this Info Cube is 0CO_PC_PCP_10.

The data source under this Info source is 0CO_PC_PCP_03.

This info cube is combined with another info cube and ODS. There is a multi provider, which sits on top of it.

When reported on this Multi provider. It needs to show the Material and the components used to manufacture that material. It does that. We would like it to show only the semi-finished goods under the material and then under the semi finished goods it needs to show the lower level components. So we applied the note 743357. This would show only the semis. Later on a few changes were done to the note and reapplied. So the reports were once again showing all the components under the material. So I was struggling to see if the note was still there. Got it solved with your help. After that I was trying to reload the data to see if it would make a difference. When trying to reload the data it is giving me the error.

Hope I have made it clear. If not please let me know.

All this is going on in the R/3 Dev and BW Dev system. The note was applied in R/3 Dev system.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

when I select my Info Source, Right click and try to assign data source. It is showing the source system. Under the source system it is failing to show my data source 0CO_PC_PCP_03. I am not sure which step I am missing.

Thanks

This usually means that either it has not been replicated (which is not the case) or that it is assigned to another InfoSource. In RSA1 goto Source Systems and double click the concerned source system. Search for your datasource here. If it has a green + sign in front of it, then it has been assigned to an InfoSource. Right click and choss eChange Transfer Rules and it will take you to the InfoSource.

Hope this helps...

Hi Sandhya,

if I understood correctly the datasource 0CO_PC_PCP_03 was already connected in BW to an infosource and data was extracted.

1) Then in development an OSS note was implemented and

2) the datasource activated again on R\3.

3) The changes have been transported from R\3 dev to R\3 Production.

4) You replicated the datasources in BW dev, BW QA and BW production.

5) If necessary changes in BW have been made and transported to production

6) transferrule has been activated.

Please let me know if this is correct so far.

Thanks Michael,

This data source is already replicated in BW. I am trying to replicate it and reload the data because there were a few changes made to the note and reactivated.

In this case what are the steps I need to follow?

Thanks

Hi Sandhya,

After you replicate the datasource be sure to activate the transfer rules again. Then you can try to load data again. If you are doubtful of the data, you can load only to the PSA and take a look there.

Hope this helps...

Hi Sandhya,

if the datasource is connected to the right infosource do as Bhanu suggests. If you can not activate the Transfer rules in Production directly use the program RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL (SE38)

Sandhya,

looks like you connected a flatfile datasource. If you have the data you want to upload in a *.csv file or Excel file this would be the right approach.

If I understand your intention correctly you try to extract Data from R\3. You therefor have to select the R\3 datasource when assigning a datasource to your infosource.

If you haven't done it yet go to the source system and select DataSource overview. Navigate to the Product Cost Section you want to extract from and replicate the Datasource. After the Datasource is correctly replicated it will be offered as a selection when you assign a datasource to your infosource, assuming it is not already used somewhere else.

Hope that helped,

Michael
