Version management is used to keep track of objects changes and at what frequency,so in a way complete history of changes.
in menu bar goto Utilities -> Version Management

It is basically about BW objects life-cycle when then are delivered in Business Content (D version), then they are activated from Business Content (A), then they might be changed/adjusted (M), and they are transported (T)...
