Free Memory In ST06

Former Member

Dear gurus,

When SAP started for the first time, I check ST06, and free memory is around 50% of total physical memory.

After 1-2 days, it is now less than 10%, EVEN THOUGH there's no user logged in.

I check in ST02, current extended and other memory areas are low.

It seems that after usage, the memory is not released to OS ?

Is it normal?

Regards,

Hi,

Can you please tell me that your system is 32 bit or 64 bit?

Also please check the following SAP notes..

Note 1001015 - saposcol/st06: wrong average values for memory/swap

Note 189072 - ST06/OS06: No data or incorrect data displayed

Also check the list of background jobs..

No background is running.

swapinfo -tam return 55% total free memory.

ST06 still display <6% free memory.

SAPOSCOL has been updated to latest version.

Any other suggestion?

Hi,

Since you have a new system, you would need to tune memory parameters based on your hardware configuration.

This would be an iterative process and would continue until the system becomes stable over a period of time.

Please search for memory related SAP notes related to your server / OS configuration and setup parameters accordingly.

Links shared above should help you understand what parameters need to be tuned.

Hope this helps.

Your OS version ? How much memory you have at all ? How you configure file system cache ?

In St02 --> detail --> storage what do you see ? what db you use? Anything also on this server ?

Hi,

It's 16GB Physical Memory.

Total virtual share memory is around 10GB.

Server runs SAP only, one SAP instance, one DB instance.

No other programs running.

Is PHYS_MEMSIZE available on UNIX?

No PHYS_MEMSIZE not work in UNIX . Your UNIX are ?

I will see situations like you post, but in case of users works in system.

Can you post st02> detail>storage information here.

Also post st02 information when you see 10% free memory in st06n.

Regards.

Looks like your Swap memory is not configured correctly. It should ideally be 3 * Physical memory.

Also check for number of swaps in ST02.

Tuning memory is quite tricky and you would need to read and understand a lot of terms.

For a start, read

Based on your system config, please check for notes and tune memory parameters accordingly.

Hope this helps.
