Get data Scenario

I was planning to do an HTTP GET to pull down data that is not in XML format. After some investigation, it does not look like a GET is possible with the HTTP adapter. Mainly, FOREX provides exchange rates that can be downloaded via a login and password from a URL. The data is not in XML format, so file content conversion needs to occur also. What adapter can be used to do the above scenario? Can I FTP from a URL?
