Problem saving Dynamic Templates

Hi Experts,

Once we save any Dynamic template, there is a pop up message saying 'Do you want to increase the template version?'

Now our issue is, on the shared Citrix environment we are not getting the message at all. Before today there was no problem. Also on the local system its showing an inconsistent behavior.

We are on SAP BPC 7.5 NW SP09 since 2 months.

Any idea where this setting is maintained? And how can we resolve this issue?

Best Regards,

Sayan

    Hi Sreeni,

Thanks a lot for the update.

As per your comments i did a check on the versions. The template version in Dev is higher than the QA as well Production but Production version is higher than QA. We dont have the issue on Production. By changing dynamic templates i mean while saving it again(change /no change) the pop up should come up, atleast that is the case in other systems. Also we have tried changing parameters in the reports and saving them, still no pop up.

Just to be clear, could you explain in brief how these template versions are maintained accross the landscape when you say that it should always be higher in the target system? Also like what is the implicat if we manually change them?

    Thanks again!

    BR,

    Sayan

Please ignore about the template versions and I have mentioned that only as some additional information. If you P is having a higher verion than D, dont need to worry about the transports. I am told that there is a dependency there. So just shared.

The dynamic template are some standard template that comes with your APSHELL and has some standard formatting to it. You can make changes to the existing template and save them back with a higher version so it gets updated in the system and the same updated version i beleive can be seen by all the users.

If all you are doing is creating a report, you could save it in the company folder or you can save it as a template and with a unique template ID. This then would be available in the template list if some users want to create reports based on the template you have saved.

In simple terms, they are just report templates that come with some predefined formatting and a standard layout like a drill down report. You can use them for creating your own reports which in turn can also be saved as templates.

      Thanks,

      Sreeni

      Hi Sayan,

What changes are you making to a dynamic template? I am not suggesting that you cannot make any changes to the dynamic templates. You can make changes to the template and while saving to the template name in the wizard folder, the system will prompt you to increase the version number which you can see in the admin console at the application set node. You could also set the new template version there.

I am also told that during the transports, the template version in the target should be higher than the source system. I am not too sure about this as we always have the template version higher in P compared to D.

If all you are trying to do is create a report based off a templare, I suggest dont save it to the template number in the wizard folder, use a suitable name for your report and save it. You get the prompt only if you are changing the template as such.

      Thanks,

      Sreeni

    Hi Sreeni,

    Thanks for the explanation!

But what do you suggest could be the solution to this situation. This seems to be an incosistent behaviour. Some users are able to and some users are not. Even when they have the exact same Admin rights necessary for this task.

    Hi Sreeni,

Yes, the Admin users were making a mistake they saving it in Local Wizard instead of Company Wizard.

The issue is solved. Points assigned 😊
