Duplicate Serial Number

Dear Experts,

I have activated Serial Number profile in Material Master and Procedure is to generate Serial number and Equipment number at the time of GR (Goods Reciept).

But i Checked I m getting same serial number for two Material Codes.

Don't know y it is like this.

Any Suggestions?

    You cannot have duplicate serial number for the same material, however you can have duplicate serial numbers for different material.

    If you do not want this, then you will need to develop a solution. Have a look at the IQSM* user-exits via TCode SMOD

    Dear Rajat

    In standard SAP - serial no & material no combination is unique that is equipment number which gets created in the background in the system. Hence serial no is unique for a particular material only and same serial no can be used for other material. This functionality is helpful in tracking a particular material thoughout a production process when the material no changes from one sub process to next process. In your scenario only say one serial no X100 is generated during GR (101) of a production order, then if this material is semifinished now & to be further processed then it will be used as component material in another production order and the out of that process may be a different material but same serial no. In this way you can track from which initial material it is produced. We haveimplemented this in one of our production process of Wheel manufacturing & the material codes changes 4/5 times in the complete process till delivery. Pl reply if you have further query
