Hello
Is XI the good solution for exchanging data between 2 R3 4.7 systems or it's better using standard methods (rfc)?
Exists a how-to guide about it?
Regards
David
Hi David,
of course it's cheaper to use only RFC.
At the other side the XI solution is extendable and the interfaces are reusable. After all the XI monitoring is excellent.

with the use of XI?
you may try using one of those 3 types of connections:
- R/3 idoc - xi - idoc R/3
- R/3 abap proxy - xi - abap proxy R/3
- R/3 RFC - xi - RFC R/3
and the combinations:)
for some documents try:

link - Sap XI 3.0 articles
good place to start

Hi David,
In one of our projects we're connecting
2 sap r/3 4.7
we're using xi for:
- there are many additional processes involved
during sending a idoc (or rfc) like many file transfers (ftp, sftp), mail sending (encrypting mails), fields mapping(storage locations etc), idoc -> bapi, etc.
- message monitoring!!! all in one place
- sending alerts
I believe in our case XI was the only reasonable solution

David,
If you have decided to invest on XI for all interfacing needs in your landscape, then it is better to have the two R/3 system interface via XI.
The idea of XI is to have a hub and spoke architecture where XI is in the center and all other interfaces are spokes.
However, if your interfacing need is just to integrate two R/3 system only and no other system involved, I would suggest to give a second thought in investing on XI.
