Oranization structure warehouse and plant

Hi Experts,

I had a question on Organizational structure below

1. Its known that "Two diff plants will not share same storage locations", so i have seen the sap-pdfL0530 that

"It is possible to manage warehouses from different plants or different company codes under one warehouse number."

Here in general physically storage location= warehouse.

Can any one let me know this contradiction please... in between the two statements.

    There's no contradiction.

Stock is managed in storage location and storage location in SAP can always belong to one plant (storage location is not separate object in SAP, it can be created always under a plant --> plant dependent). Same storage location ID can be used under several plants but even if those storage locations have the same ID they are separate storage locations.

Warehouse is a separate object in SAP and can be assigned to several plant/storage location combinations (plants can be different, even plants which are under different company codes).

Even if several plant/storage location combinations are assigned to one warehouse object, the stock still is managed in Invnentory Management in plant/storage location (and in SAP warehouse management it is registered to which plant/storage location the particular stokc belongs; warehouse will just show the exact location of the stock but has no meaning/importance from valuation point of view).

So, storage location and warehouse have different purpose and meaning in SAP and if warehouse management is used the stock is managed both in IM and in WMS (=warehouse won't replace storage location).
