SAP 4.7 / solaris/oracle to ECC 6.0 (EHP V)/windows 2008 R2/SQL server 2008

Hi

we are planning to do a OS DB migration, upgrade and unicode conversion from

"SAP 4.7 / solaris/oracle/non unicode" to "ECC 6.0 (EHP V)/windows 2008 R2/SQL server 2008/unicode"

We plan to do a 2 step approach.

First step:

OS DB migration & Unicode conversion on a weekend

- Do a unicode export from SAP 4.7/solaris/Oracle 9.2

- Import the same to SAP 4.7/windows 2008 R2/SQL server 2008/unicode

Second step:

second weekend

- Upgrade SAP 4.7/windows 2008 R2/SQL server 2008/unicode to SAP ECC 6.0 (EHPV)/windows 2008/ sql server/unicode

Is our approach correct?, has anyone done the same?

can we do unicode conversion in 4.7 ?

Thanks & Regards

Senthil

    Hi Senthil,

this approach is technically possible (assuming that the upgrade preparation phase - formerly called PREPARE - does not run longer than 5 days). However I do not think that many customers have done the conversion on one week and the Upgrade on the next weekend. Normally the goal is to do all on one weekend (e.g. because of testing). And in addition, in most cases the upgrade is executed before the conversion ...

R/3 4.7 is supported on Unicode.

    Hi,

As per PAM, for SAP R3 4.7 below are the supported environments

MS SQL SERVER 2000 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/X64 64BIT 24.10.2005 Released

    MS SQL SERVER 2000 IA64 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA64 64BIT 22.03.2004 Released

    MS SQL SERVER 2005 IA64 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA64 64BIT 06.04.2006 Released

MS SQL SERVER 2005/X86_64 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/X64 64BIT 06.04.2006 Released

So your approach will not be suitable.

You may need to upgrade your SAP environment first and then perform unicode migration. You may look for Combined upgrade and unicode migration approach to achieve your desired result.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Senthil,

did not look at the PAM when writing my first message ...

However in that case I would rather try to combine all in one weekend ...

    Best regards,

    Nils

    • Hi,

our current oracle version is oracle 9.2.0.7.

You will be required to upgrade oracle 9.2.0.7 to 9.2.0.8 first .

      Then upgrade to Oracle 11.2.0.2.

It will be 2 steps process to upgrade to oracle 11g.

Then during UC you can migrate to Windows server.

      Hope this helps.
