Background jobs distribution - Load balancing

Hi All,

We have 4 app servers and our background jobs are not disributing equally. Among 4 servers jobs getting distributed to only 2 servers and remaining 2 servers are free mostly eventhough many released jobs (with more delay time) are waiting to find the free BTC work process.

We tried to troubleshoot but couldn't get any idea.

We do not have background job load balancing as of now we only have logon load balancing enabled.

This problem arised very recently and it was not the case till days.

Need your suggestion to resolve this issue.

Thanks

Sreeni

    Hi Sreeni,

    Use T.Code SM61.

First check Background Controller List for 4 servers. Check background specific Control Object exist for these 4 servers are not.

Time-Controlled Scheduler, Event-Controlled Scheduler, Job Starter, Starter for External Programs -- this Control Objects are should exist for 4 servers. If not then add them.

Now go to Job-Servergroup and add remaining servers in "SAP_DEFAULT_BTC" group.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Please check the no. of BTC work processes available on each of your 4 app servers.

Unless you define a specific execution server while scheduling your background jobs, the distribution should be taken careoff automatically.

I suggest you check the availability of BTC wp, changes in scheduled start time your background jobs and availability of required wp during the same time.

Also check for background jobs that have delayed start.

Other factor that might affect this could be the operation modes. You might want to check that as well.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

You can define a server group using tcode RZ12. While defining the job select this server group which should distribute the load properly.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Sreeni,

Please add the remaining 2 application servers in default batch group in transaction SM61. Click on button "Job-Servergruppen" to add into the groups.

    It should resolve your issue.

    Thanks,
