URGENT: Connecting BPC 10.0 with BI4.0, with Universe Design Tool

Hi all,

I have quite an urgent question that I need some guidance from all you SAP gurus on!

Is it possible to connect BPC 10 to BI4 using Universe Design Tool? We are under the impression very few people have connected these pieces of software together, if at all. It is very important to a Project I am on at the moment as to whether it is possible so any advice would be very much appreciated.

So far we have done..

Software is installed - Universe Design Tool (UDT)

Logins have been created for BPC 10

Opened up UDT and go through the Wizard;

Connection name is BPC CCONNECTION

Select data access driver: Business Planning and Consolidation OLE DB for OLAP

Enter the server address for BPC 10 (This is the URL that we log in to the BPC Admin Console)

After we try to continue, we get the error as follows:

If anyone could give any kind of advice I would really apprecaite it!

Nick

Hi all,

We did manage to get this working using a 'fat-query'. This involved building a BEx query on top of the BPC cube, then setting up the BI4 report to interface with the dataset via the BEx query.

I'm unsure as to whether this is possible on a Microsoft platform but if anyone has details then I would appreciate it. A colleague is trying to do this on MS; unsucessfully so far.

Many Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Just an observation about the query, that I'm sure that you know about it but, anyway:

create the query with the multprovider as source. The technical name of BPC cubes changes on optmization.

Hi Lucas, good observation. We had a couple of issues with that initially but as you advised, linking BI4 to the multi-provider resolved any issue relating to technical name changes on model structure change / optimisation etc.

Hi Nick,

If you are trying to connect BPC 10 NW to BI 4.0 then I have some suggestions. We did this in our SAP EPM 10 training. In the Admin go to the model tab , select your model and edit it. Select the check box Use as a source. This creates a transient query in the backend.. Then we designed the connection in IDT (Information Design tool). Login to IDT and create a new project. Now Right click on the project and create a new OLAP connection. Select SAP BICS as driver selection. Provide the server details and user aunthetication. Select specify a cube in connection option. Now You can select your model <MODELNAME>_B folder and u will see one query with /CPMB/TQ_XXXX. Test your connection and publish your connection to repository . Now you can use this connection for creating Interactive Analysis (Webi Report). I am not sure about the reporting client you wish to use.

Hope this Helps

Hi Nick,

I forgot to mention that you will not face technical name changeability problem with this solution because when you select your model to be used as a source a new Info provider with <MODELNAME>_B is created whcich is regularly updated with data in original cube. This is very similar to the option when we selected enabling GRC process integration checkbox in 7.5 and it used to also create a shadow cube with Modelname_B .

Hi Nikhil,

I am trying to connect BPC 10 with BO 4.0 Webi.

I followed all the steps you mentioned. In the last step, when i am creating the webi report, I am getting the message "This query cannot be used as a source for webi reports, Ask your administrator to edit it and enable the property 'Allow external access to this query'.

Now afterwards, I opened Query Designer and selected the query, then I am getting below message

"Error: component /CPMB/TQ2_XXXX (version A) do not exist in the database."

Since I cannot open the query in Query Designer, I cannot change this property. Any suggestions on how to move forward.

Log into the BPC web client of your environment, go to Models > Select the model > then tick the option 'Use as Source of Data' in the bottom right of the window.

I think this should fix it

Hi Nick,

I have already checked that and I can see Transient Query/Virtual provider in BEx Analyzer and BW backend respectively. But when I am using transient query in Webi report,  I am getting the message "This query cannot be used as a source for webi reports, Ask your administrator to edit it and enable the property 'Allow external access to this query'.

I know this is an old post but if it is of help to anyone there is SAP Note 1731626 - Connectivity options between various BusinessObjects BI tools and BPC.

Hi Nick,

Just be aware that if you report straight off a BPC InfoCube or MultiProvider, your BEx query will only show you data from your closed requests, not the records in your open requests.

So you need to make sure to regulary close off your requests - either by running optimisations, or by changing the real time behaviour of the cube.

Hi,

I have the same problem and would like to know how you got the BW transient query to be allowed on the WebI report.

I changed the Model to be used as "Source of Data" (It was already flaged, but i unflagged and flagged again).

I am using the transient query /CPMB/TQ2_***** created on the "_B" infoprovider, but when I go to webi, the query shows "gray" and I can not change it on query designer to flag allow external access.

thanks for the help.
