Remote Support Component Questions

Hi

I have installed remote support component to monitor BusinessObjects Installation.

I have looked at what is available and have the following questions that I hope someone will be able to answer

1) I see content for Businessobjects XI 3.1, what about 4?

2) I do not see any content to monitor Data Services and databases connected to data services?

4) Is there any content to monitor disk space, database instances, database sizes/growth?

3) Is it possible to create dashboards, add content of your own for monitoring anything not provided as shown above?

Thanks in advance 😊

    Hi,

    1) RSC does not support BI4.0 (yet)

    2) I don't believe that DS (EIM product) is on the roadmap, i think support for EPM products (i.e. BPC) is more likely first.

    - if you want need a governance framework to monitor data assets, you should consider INFORMATION STEWARD. Link:

    3) Disk space should be covered by the SMDAgent and the OSCOL metrics it consumes. DB growth isn't available.

    4) creation of custom Wily Introscope dashboards is not possible in the product.

However, both of your last 2 suggestions should be logged as enhancement ideas here: https://cw.sdn.sap.com/cw/community/ideas/businessanalytics/sbo_rsc

    • Hi,

Wily Introscope is actually a 3rd party tool (Computer Associates) - hence we have an OEM partnership with them ourselves. Perhaps your organisation could work with them directly.

I would encourage you to raise this concern to your contact at SAP's Partner Ecosystem . You are not the first.

Like i said, log the enhancement - raise its profile.

      Regards,

      H

Some additional input in addition to Henry's

    1) I see content for Businessobjects XI 3.1, what about 4?

Support for BI Platform 4.x is targeted for Q2 2012

    2) I do not see any content to monitor Data Services and databases connected to data services?

Support for database monitoring (database specific metrics) is planned for a future version. However, you can monitor the database process itself along with operating system metrics such as cpu, memory, disk i/o, network stats etc. With Solution Manager however, you can monitor database internals via dbacockpit tool.

    4) Is there any content to monitor disk space, database instances, database sizes/growth?

    See #2

    3) Is it possible to create dashboards, add content of your own for monitoring anything not provided as shown above?

Yes, however you need to purchase a license for CA Wily Introscope. The remote support component is totally free therefore its a view only version. However, with a CA license you may customize or add content as you see fit.

The enhancement you request is already planned however if you could go to the [Idea Place|https://cw.sdn.sap.com/cw/community/ideas/businessanalytics/sbo_rsc] and vote for this enhancement it will certainly help increase the priority.

If you have more queries or concerns please feel free to post more feedback.

    • Hi Louis,

      I have confirmed the following:

The read-only version of Introscope can be upgraded either by purchasing a license from CA or from SAP (via the SAP Extended Diagnostics package). With this version, you may create your own custom dashboards and content against the BOE metrics. Existing dashboards are locked however you may see how they are created and then create your own custom versions or create brand new content.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Thanks,

      Toby
