End User Access during Costing Run

Can you kindly help with your advice

Every month our Finance area requests all end users to exit the system during the end of month costing run.

This is disruptive, and in my experience, surprises me. i do not believe there should be a need for this.

In my previous experience the "end of month" process was barely noticeable with zero disruption to the business and no concerns with user access during this time

With my current employer, only the Sales area may have access to key orders, but we cannot be in create / change mode of Material Master, cannot receipt / despatch stock, no financial postings etc

Do you have any advice as to Best Practice, what is essential for a successful costing run, what access is allowable or any experiences you could share.
