Hi BPC Experts,
I have a custom BW cube using a generic extractor.
Now, I want to make the data from the BW cube accessable to the BPC Excel Client.
What is the standard practice for doing this? Must I first build a BPC Staging Cube then load the BW data into the staging cube or can I just access the BW data directly from BPC Excel Client? What are the steps to building a BPC Staging Cube?
Please help with this question.

Hello -
Please specify what version you are using!!!
If you are using BPC 75 NW, you will need to import BW data into the BPC /CPMB/ cubes before you can use the BPC Excel client to display the results. A staging cube is a useful means for consolidating data from multiple BW sources and prepping the data for efficient consumption by BPC Data Manager (preping includes transformation of multiple key figures data model into a BPC friendly single key figure model). Please note that the use of a staging cube is absolutely not required (BPC has all of the transformation and key figure manipulation tools built into the transformation files). Experience has shown that staging the data will be more efficient in cases where data is pulled on demand by the BPC user....the heavy lifting is placed on the BW side instead of BPC by using the staging cube concept.
If you are using BPC 10 NW, you are able to source BW data directly in the EPM10 Add In (the replacement for the BPC Excel Client). The BW data is sourced via an ODBO connection and data can be displayed from BPC and BW on the same report.

Sheldon

Hi,
There is no concept of BPC staging cube. The system creates BPC cubes based on the applications you create in BPC admin. You need to import the data from BW cube to BPC application, using standard BPC import DM package. Then you can create BPC report to view this data.
Hope this helps.
