IdM 7.1 to IdM 7.2 Migration errors

Former Member

Hi,

We have installed IdM 7.1 initially then after 7.2 is avialable we just removed 7.1 and installed 7.2. When I say removed we did removed the database schema as well, since we don't have any jobs or tasks or entries as this is a fresh install we did not feel it's necessary to go over the migration steps for 7.2. WHen we tried to setup the Identity Center configuration it complains about the 7.1 to 7.2 comptability issues and we still the v7.1 mode enabled instead of 7.2 Pure.

Am I missing any steps here? Or should I have to follow the migration steps whether we have entries in the the database or not.

I've tried to set the compability flag using the scripts provided but it did not help me either.

Just wondering if any has encountered this problem.

Thanks,

Joe.P

Hi All,

I have installed IDM 7.2. ( And I had never installed any IDm version before this on this machine).

After doing identity center  initial config I am getting an error saying

"this identity center database is not migrated to 7.2" And when i refresh the node it also says -

"this version of identity center requires that database update 1035 is installed. the latest update installed is 1025"

I have also attached the screenshot for the same below, I also ran update-mxmc.cmd to update DB.But still same error.

Please help me out.

THnks in advance,

Indira

Hi Indira

See my comment above - this is a problem with the installer prior to SP6.  If you install the latest version it should work fine.

Hi Peter,

You are right, I have installed SP06 and the above error is not there anymore.

But I have an error in Dispatcher Test.

Suggestion: Recreate the dispatcher scripts. This might help....

hello,

where can i find the install-scripts from SP6 (or SP8).

the only SP file i find for identy center is ICRUNTIME08_1-20005938.ZIP and it doesn't include datebase-scripts.

Hi Eike

Sounds like you haven't got the complete service pack.  You should have something like ICDESIGNTIME...

Hi Indira,

Hope this is fixed !!

If you face such error in future, please go through the error description. In your case, i guess the problem is with the Keys.ini as the Java exception says something about decryption.

Cheers,

Krishna.

Hello Eike,

The when you are dowloading a SP<X> for IDM from SMP, enusure all the compontes on the same verison are downloaded. it includes the followin

IC_DESIGNTIME - Contains Database scripts & Management Console installer

IC_RUNTIME - Run time component installer

IDM_72_UIS_PC_700 - UI comp for NW 7.0

IDM_72_UIS_PC_710 - UI comp for NW 7.1

IDM_FEDERATION - Identity Federation Componenet

VD_SERVER_72 - Virtual Directory Server.

Please ensure that you run the install /update commands from the command prompt only to make sure that the objects dependency errors will not arise during the upgrade.

Best regards,

Krishna.

Any solution to this yet?

No still trying to figure out if it had to do with 32bit Oracle OLE DB provider, should I use 64 bit.

Thanks,

7.2 will support 64 bit.

You're using Oracle, hmmmm..... Check with your DBA and make sure everything is gone from the datatabase. Or install 7.2 to a different server if possible.

Never had a lot of luck with Oracle. I realize some places need or prefer to use it, but I've always had a lot of hassle....

Good luck!

Ah well I'm on MS SQL.

I'm curious though where IdM saves information because I deleted the full SQL installation and even manually deleted the old DB files from the drive. Still I get the 7.1 pls migrate to 7.2 error.

Do you have all components on one host?

The Installations also generate Windows registry keys, maybe the existence of previous versions is checked this way? I cannot think of any other registration in the DB if you even deleted the SQL-database - except maybe MSSQL master-DBs...

Does the windows installation of DesignTimes writes anything into the windows registry? would that cause a problem like this.

Thanks,

Apparently it's not the registry. I just tried using a db on a different server and that works.

Question still is how come something was left behind, even when I did a new installation, new version and all

I even swiped everything off from my windows server and restored to the version before the 7.1 installation, that did not help me either.

I'm not sure about that, this was only a guess.

At least I know the DesignTime saves the installation directory to the registry.

I'm also quite sure that it writes additional information to the registry due to the fact that it uses MMC-Technology - but that's also only a guess.

I don't know how SAP checks if version 7.1 was installed previously because 1) I'm not SAP 2) I have not gotten in contact with 7.2 yet.

Sorry if I spread confusion...

ok, I think I found it.

The error was to migrate the db from 7.1 to 7.2 but I kept on thinking that it was an error generated in fault. (if that makes sense).

Anyway, I think I found the solution, by accident I had set the Java RT JDBC URL user to mxmc_admin instead of mxmc_rt. Changed it and now it seems to work (beter).

Hope it helps.

But as per the 7.2 Identity Configuration aren't we supposed to use the runtime user ( mxmc_rt ) would that cause any problems later on.

We were able to resolve this when we manually uninstalled the schema and users and did run install scrip from SP03 rather then from SP01 as per SAP.

I was getting the same migration error when I installed 7.2 - no upgrade! . I also had to remove the initial install for identity center and then reinstall with support pack version 7.2.6.

It came back without the error now.  Thanks!

What service pack are you installing?  I assume you followed all the migration steps

Actually it was weird.  I got the migration error without migrating at all.  I installed 7.2 without a service pack first, got the migration error after I set up the identity center config on the console. Then, after seeing this post, uninstalled 7.2, and then installed 7.2 with service pack 6. No error now. Now a different error with the Oracle OLE DB but tht's a different story.

Thanks,

Chris

This was a problem with the installer.  The updates in the directory stopped at 1025 iirc (below the 1035 required for 7.2).  SP6 has all the required updates - up to 1066.
