SAP BW 3.5 to BI 7.3 Upgrade

Hi ,

we are planning to upgrade our BW 3.5 system to BI 7.3. I need some help

regarding the same.

Can you please help me with the below information..

1. Can we go directly from BW 3.5 to BI 7.3 along with BI Java.

2. Any technical impact for the upgrade.

3. Need you help in Upgrade approach.

5. Also help me with some documentation.

You have to, if you plan to use Java components (BI-Java), which is very likely:

Note 975768 - Deprecation of Java features with non-Unicode Backend

Since 2007 SAP recommends only installing Unicode systems and converting existing systems to Unicode.

Thank You for the SAP note.

After the BW upgrade to BW 7.3, Does it work with portal 7.0 or does we need to upgrade to portal also to 7.3.

Oh - you're using a Portal already? Then I would highly recommend migrating to Unicode ASAP.

Dear Expert :

We also have a plan to updrade BW 3.5 to BW 7.3. I have following questions need you kindly sharing your experience.

We will plan to perform Technical upgrade from BW 3.5 to BW 7.3, After that we will migrate BW 3.5 Object to BW 7.3 native mode.

1. If we do Technical upgarde from BW 3.5 to BW 7.3 first , after that we will migrate BW 3.X object to BW 7.3 Native mode. For data extraction, Can we keep original Delta extract process? or we will loss delta status and need to do initial extract again for delta datasource.

2. For data load performance, dose it will improve that if we migrate to 7.3 Mode or It didn't have big improve for BW 3.x mode and BW 7.3 native mode?

3. For Query report performance, dose it will improve that if we migrate to 7.3 Mode or keep in 3.x mode?

4. Our BW system have a lot of data, dose it will impact the tecn upgrade time? Data volumn will impace system tech upgrade time or not? We need to estimate system down time for tech upgrade.

5. For BW 7.3 authorization, It is total difference with Bw 3.5. After Technical upgrade, what do we need to change for authorization? Do you have any document for me to reference ?

Yes, you can go directly to NW 7.3 with Java.

In NW 7.3 there are lot of changes then previous release. So, you should read NW 7.3 first to get know more about technically.

Hi Sunny/Manoj/Marcus,

We are aso targetting to upgrade 3.5 to 7.3 , but we have SEM-BE 400 and FINBASIS 300 installed , can we still go a single step upgrade?

I read somehwere that we must have 604 versions of SEM-BW and FINBASIS.

Did you come across such situations?

WHat is the suggestive approach for that upgrade?

We're also planning to Upgrade our BW 3.5 system, Unfortunately we are not unicode either.

If we were to convert the BW system to unicode (during the upgrade) would we also have to do a unicode converstion on the Source system (ECC 6.0 Ehp3)?
