Substitute Material Issue in Subcontracting Purchase Order

Hello Experts,

We are into support project. We have issue with substitute material. We have material say "A" for which substitute material is "B" and the material "A" is not used now.

The material "A" is included in the material BOM "C". So final material is "C", for which component material is "A" which is NOT used now and has substitute material "B" is active for the current period.

When we create subcontracting PO for the final material "C", the component material is always picking as "A" though which is NOT used now

Could you please guide why the substitute material is NOT picked in the subcontracting PO component material list will be provided to the SC vendor?

check if the validy of material A is still active.

A better solution could be to make a new BOM with alternative BOM 2 and add the material B and remove the material A.

Reason may be material 'B' BOM validity from date may be after p.o document date.

If several alternative BOMs exist, there is no possibility

of selecting the desired BOM interactively. Instead,

selection can be controlled via the following mechanisms:

- SELECTION BY QUANTITY:

A lot size interval for which the BOM is valid can be

entered in the BOM header.

A prerequisite is that the Selection method indicator is

not set in the material master record (MRP 4 view).

- SELECTION BY DATE:

Can be set in the IMG under Production -> Basic Data ->

Bill of Material -> Alternative Determination -> Define

Alternative Determination for Multiple BOMs (transaction

OS32). A prerequisite is that the Selection method

indicator the is set to 1 in the material master record

(MRP 4 view).

- SELECTION BY PRODUCTION VERSION:

Can be used if the same material has different BOMs with

different suppliers.
