BOP special sorting variants -> open /SAPAPO/VASOSORT for maintenance ?

Hello experts,

we are using a special sorting variant for criteria "customer" in a BOP variant in order to reschedule customer orders along a free defined list of customer numbers. The variant maintenance in /SAPAPO/VASOSORT seems to be of type "customizing" - but the users want to change such variants based on day-to-day needs. Is there a way to allow users to maintain special sorting variants with tocde /SAPAPO/VASOSORT without opening the whole box to "changable" - checking SE06 doesn't seem to have specific switch for this.

Regards

Thomas

Thomas,

As expert Thinschmidt has stated, this would be an enhancement or modification.

However, I don't think I have ever seen an actual business requirement that would require this type of change. If you are clever in creating your sort items, and in maintaining the associated master data, combined with filters that select JUST the orders you wish to reschedule, there is usually no reason for regular changing of a sort variant sequence.

Well, if SAP declares such data to be part of the application menu under GATP --> "current settings" it should work like this - if not this should not show up there and only be part of the SPRO menu.

I agree and there is no debate on

- Filter types

- Sort profiles

- standard special sortings

They should all be Customizing.

But something is strange with "variant dependent special sorting" it should do what it is supposed to do - allow the business to align the BOP to a current business situation (and yes the world turns very fast every day and it not waiting until an IT colleague is goin to retransport variants again again). You could also ask why the heck are filter variants are "normal variants" you can change like you want (which define the scope of the BOP) - but why not the sorting ?

We worked couple alternatives for special customer sorting - but truly need to enable the business to steer their sales on different days in accordance to priorities and circumstances of the day/week. Therefore I don't see this as good approach to declare "varaint-dependen special sorting" variants to be "customizing".

By the way: we are checking with tcode SOBJ control if this allows us to enable objects /SAPAPO/BOPO2 and /SAPAPO/BOPSORTO to disable customizing control and allow true "current settings" what /SAPAPO/VASOSORT should be.

Thomas

??? I wasn't aware that there was anything to debate. I certainly have no reason to participate in one.....

You have made several observations about what SAP 'should' do.

I suggest that if you feel that items in the application menu appear inappropriately, you customize the menu in a way that meets your requirements. With respect to the sort variant normally being a transportable customization, I believe expert Thinschmidt has already made a suggestion to you to solve this problem

If you are, however, saying that the default SAP functionality is not to your liking, and should be changed, then I suggest you forward those perceptions to Walldorf. Better still, you should become active in your local SAP user group. SAP in part uses input generated by these usergroups to make functional changes in their software offerings.

In Germany, I believe the main usergroup is DSAG at http://www.dsag.de/de/dsaghome/dsag.html. Your local SAP account manager can also help you contact your usergroup. You are more likely to get SAP to respond to your requests for changes to their standard product if you can convince your local usergroup of their validity, and have the User Group submit the requests to Walldorf.

Placing rants or wishlists in a forum seems to me to be a rather ineffective waste of time.

Here in the US, in recent ASUG meetings, we hear that one of SAP's latest initiatives is improving usability of their software. Perhaps your suggestions will be heard. When you have received SAPs response to your 'change request', please post it in the forum so that the rest of us can share in your successes.

Best Regards & Good Luck,,

A basis colleague brought up a potential solution here: Note 135028 (Transfer IMG activity to current setting) allows to switch a maintenance object attribute "customizing" (and has transport connection) to "current settings" - in my case it's /SAPAPO/BOPO2. We will use this to deactivate the customizing attribute for variant-dependent special sorting in test and prod system.

Hi Thomas,

No, there is no standard way to achieve this. You could only modify the transaction or create a new one with your modifications.

Hello Michael,

seems not logical to me since a variant dependent sorting might frequently be changed - but I guess there is a certain intention behind to keep this as customizing. Will probably modify the transaction as you suggested.

Thanks
