I have created a VS2010 vb.net desktop application that uses CR 2010 on a computer that has XP(3).
I have discovered that I need to deploy the CR Runtimes on the client's computers as part of the installation. I have read that I can do that by adding Merge Modules to me application. I visited this good page:
which provides the files.
The merge modules when unzipped include 23 .msm files.
The SAP .NET developer guide says:
In the Add Modules dialog box, navigate to the folder where the merge modules package is located on your computer.
Select the merge modules that are required for your Windows application and add these to your application.
It appears some of the msm files are for other languages. Currently I only need the english files, but I would like my installation to be able to run on 64 bit or 32 bit systems.
Is there a description of the contents of the .msm files in the merge module and the context in which each should be used?
Are both the 32 bit and 64 bit files set included in the merge modules?
If I can determine which msm files I need and then add them to my installation package, will it determine automatically which to install base on the characteristics of the users computer, or do I need to program this as part of the installation package development?
After deployment, where will the merge modules be installed on the clients computer? Is the location something I control and need to be concerned with or is it determined by the merge module package?
Thanks for your help!
