Preventive Maintenance

Former Member

Dear Friends,

I am a MCA fresher graduate. I have recently joined as a QM/PM consultant in a reputed organization without knowing anything about sap. Now I am in learning phase. I got a project in PM to develop a Preventive maintenance (PM) system. So far I have learnt from my training phase is that we need Task list, Maintenance plan, Maintenance strategy and Schedule the maintenance.

But i have a doubt that if the maintenance people wish to perform PM only after getting the formal approval from the production people. How can we achieve this scenario in SAP system. Is there any concept available? PLS help me friends.

Hi,

you can plan Preventive maintenance plan at maintenance department level or with prior concent to the production department. However, when you schedule maintenance plan you should be confirm after discussion with production department whether on that particular day machine or work center will be in operation or not.

your process for Preventive Maintenance plan is fine. moreover, you can go for Multiple counter plans, Strategy planning or Single cycle plans.

In case more doubts, let me know.

Hi sir,

Thankyou for ur valuable answer. I agree with you that I should discuss with the production people before starting the maintenance activity. But my doubt is how we can implement in the system.

1) How is it possible to identify the free machine or work center?

2) Suppose, the machine which i wish to perform Preventive maintenance is not free means

a) Can I reschedule the plan? or

b) Can I ask the production dept to postpone the process?

3) Is there any way available in sap to lock the particular machine automatically on the maintenance scheduled date?

I hope you can understand my doubt. Kindly clear my doubt.

Hi Karthik,

The Questions you have asked is as per the HOD but in real sense, you can find 2 wings in any department (Maintenance and Operation), and the maintenance Person is more concerned with the M/c Health and the Timely Schedules, which he can Never get on time, this is the reason that there can be no consultation with the Operation.

What really happens on the field is that the Operation is the driving force and maintenance person has to do the maintenance only when the Operations hand over the m/c to them, and not only that in the mean time they do the Predictive and preventive maintenance for what all m/c available to them.

and all these things are moving purely by the human instincts.

so there cant be a fixed process for the same.

this is how the business runs.........

Hope I an able to clarify upto the certain Extent..............

Rather then spending time on SAP try some time for learning the Business, it will help you more.

Hi Yawar khan,

Thankyou for ur right answer and you told me the same issue what I have faced. But I need the solution for that sir. I ask whether we can provide any check in the system inorder to free the machine or work center (though it is busy) on the maintenance date.

Hi Kartik,

In that condition you need to do the PM-PP Integration.

that is you are having 2 work centers in PM.

1. Work Cneter

2. Main Work Center

in the "Work Center" you can assign the PP Work Center.

which wont let you make the Production order on the Work Center.

Though I have myself not tried the same. But this is the solution that I can Get.

Please try in the ideas I guess that it will work.

Hi karthik,

In order header data you can define 'system condition' as 'not in operation.' when you define it in back end (customizarion) also, that particular work center or machine becomes reserve on that particular day, on which you have schedule your order to get generated. even no production order is get created on that day. you define in SPRO as follows:

pm & cs-> maintenance and service orders-> general data-> create system conditions.

Hope this clears you doubts.

HI,

By including system status 0 in task list we can restrict Production order on particular day ,which is scheduled for preventive maintenance. At the same time do maintain PP work center in equipment location tab.
