Dear Experts,
I have created a real depreciation area 92, it is already opened for one asset class, and we do procurement for a new asset, 2000 USD, after that APC value is 2000 USD for area 92.
Now I want to delete depreciation area 92, any steps to follow? any impact on my new and old asset for book depreciation area 01? thanks
Hello,
In regards to your enquiry, there are two options available in the
system to deal with a depreciation area: deactivation or deletion.
1. Deactivation of a depreciation area
======================================
A depreciation area can be deactivated per asset class and chart
of depreciation (Tr. OAYZ - "deact").
This is of course only valid for newly created assets. The already
existing assets are not affected by this change.
2. Deletion of a depreciation area
==================================
As a rule it is not possible to deleter a depreciation area via
customizing if values are already posted to this area. If you try
to save such a change, the system will issue error AC239.
In case one would consider to "avoid" this error via a modification or
debugging it would make no sense, simply because the values would still
be there but the "body" respectivelt the depr. area on the customizing,
and partially also on the asset master data, level would be deleted,
hence be missing.
Under following pre-conditions can depreciation areas be deleted:

Deletion of Depreciation Areas
You can also delete depreciation areas. The area you want to delete must
meet the following requirements:
- It cannot be the master depreciation area (01).
- There can be no asset values in the depreciation area (there cannot be
any acquisition postings in the area).
- The area cannot be a reference area for another area (for acquisition
values or depreciation terms). If it is a reference area, you should
change the definitions of the areas that are dependent on the
depreciation area you want to delete (see Characteristics of a
Depreciation Area).
- The area cannot be used in the calculation formula for a derived
depreciation area. If it is used in a calculation formula, you need to
change the calculation formula for the derived depreciation area (see
Derived Depreciation Areas).
- The area cannot be defined for automatic posting of asset values to
the General Ledger. If it is defined for automatic posting, remove the
automatic posting indicator in the definition of the area (see Derived
Depreciation Areas).

The system then deletes this depreciation area in the chart of depre-
ciation, in the depreciation area section of all affected areas and
the asset class.

When these pre-conditions are met, then you can delete in OADB
the depreciation area.
The most important prerequisite is that the depreciation area does
not have any values posted to it yet, as you cannot simple let these
values "disappear"! And that's where SAP note 492629 comes in:
You can only delete a depreciation area in existing fixed assets if this
depreciation area has not yet posted any values to the general ledger.
(In other words, if T093-BUHBKT is not equal to 1,2 or 3). In this case,
you can delete the depreciation area in Customizing in the definitions
for the depreciation area.
In all other cases, you cannot delete a depreciation area with standard
tools. In this case contact SAP Consulting.

Just for further information I am also attaching a couple more notes:
(you can ignore the coding in the notes as they are not valid for
your ECC 6.0 system).
67688 Activating deactivated depreciation areas
870829 Delete area: Application tables not deleted
853754 OADB: Incorrect automatic transport
128521 Delete deprection area - transport to other systems
hope this helps
