Rev 20 vs Rev 21

I am a bit confused about new SPS3 revisions: 20 vs 21. If I understood correctly Rev 20 was released on Nov 15 (OSS note 1648901), but 3 days later on Nov 18 there was Rev 21 released accordingly to OSS note 1653292? Anyone has a comment? Thanks. -Vitaliy

I observing since R14, every 15 or 20 days they releasing new revision, after SPS3 (r20) they release with in 3 days new revision 21.

I suspected for BW on HANA ram pup customers are facing any serious issues, so that they come up with new revision 21 fixed high priority issues.

thanks

Hello,

I understand revisions as minor updates between Support Packages. The hierarchy is like Release (1.00) / Support Package (SP03) / Revision (rev.21)...

When SP03 was delivered - it was including rev.20.

you are right Tomos, the question is why with in three days they come up with new revision?

Hello,

well - I thought that it is clear - bug fixes..

HANA is version 1.00 product... As with every brand new product - going to public availability means to be under really heavy fire - all the situations that noone expected in lab are becoming the reality when masses are trying possible and impossible actions with SAP HANA.

Also HANA is still under massive development - and with new features new bugs are introduced (and SP03 is still just ramp-up).

I am very happy that SAP is so heavily working on bringing new features as well as fixing the bugs. I know many companies and products where it takes months to fix the bugs everyone is complaining about.

Hello,

if you are questioning if SAP can make solid revision in just three days - I think that the date is just when the revision was published... see details inside the revision archives:

/sapmnt/SAPCD/HANA_rev20 # cat IMDB_SERVER100_20-10009569

rowstartpatch name IMDB_SERVER100

rowstartpatch level 20

rowstartpatch date patchtext

rowstart 20 2011/11/04 SAP HANA appliance: Revision 20 of SAP

HANA database, note 1648901

/sapmnt/SAPCD/HANA_rev21 # cat IMDB_SERVER100_21-10009569

rowstartpatch name IMDB_SERVER100

rowstartpatch level 21

rowstartpatch date patchtext

rowstart 21 2011/11/18 SAP HANA appliance: Revision 21 of SAP

HANA database, note 1653292

Just a comment:

There is no ramp-up for HANA 1.0 SPS 3.

Active ramp-ups are listed on http://service.sap.com/rampup ... and that's where you find SAP NetWeaver 7.3, BW powered by SAP HANA for example.

Hello,

Aha... then I understood it wrong... I thought that SPS03 is published as part of BW on HANA ramp-up and it not in public availability.

My mistake - thanks for correction.

Tomas, my understanding was exactly like yours based on what I was told during TechEd in Madrid at the start of SPS3. Seems some issue was quickly fixed with Rev21 making SPS3 available for non-BW cases as well. -Vitaliy
