advise on upgrade DR with HA and MSCS - from ECC6 to EHP5

Dear All,

I would like to upgrade ECC6 to EHP5 which is HA and run on windows 2008 R2 MSCS, MSSQL2008 on both prod and DR environment.

I don't see any problem upgrading HA based on the EHPI guide, however, i need some input on upgrading the DR.

As what i can think, during the upgrade, we'll first stop the log shipping to DR and perform EHP5 upgrade on PROD. Once EHP5 upgrade completed successfully on PROD, could we merely stop sql services and copy the datafiles + logs to DR and upgrade the Kernel from 7.00 to 7.20 since 7.20 kernel is downward compatible??

Your expert advise is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Nicholas Chang.

Hi,

Since you need to stop logging during downtime phase. So, best way to do this is, after your production system will be upgraded to EHP5 level, upgrade kernel on the DR server and again restore the backup of your production system to DR server and start log shipping again.

Thanks

Hi Sunny,

Just wanna confirm by upgrading the kernel on DR with HA should work fine, right?

Hi,

DR is separate from HA. right ? So, how your HA will be impacted if you will upgrade your kernel on DR server ?

Thanks

Sunny

Hi Sunny

No, our DR system also running on MCSC with HA, identical with PROD.

Hi,

Oh. Then make sure you will update the kernel at all places in your MSCS cluster and then restore your database.

Thanks
