Hello people.

I have this problem, error -2147024891, when I try to connect to licenses server

My scenario is:

My B1 is in Windows 2003 Server and the client is in Windows XP and ther isn't a domain. All computers are in a work group

I readed the article which talk about DCOMCNFG and I had all the steps in server and client.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

PD: Sorry for my english

Hi Jai,

I used to have the same problem. Didn´t succed to fix it. I use this Trick to avoid the error.

Install the licence server on the client which is not working and use a licence with a single user. Use localhost for this client, and the server for others.

Of course this doesn´t fit you if you want people with different licence profiles to use this client PC.

Hope helps,

Hi Ibai

Thanx.

the problem is that if I want to do this without ordering another licence number.

But, I will try it.

Thanx

Ñ: Si hago lo que me has dicho, nos tocaria pedir otra vez la licencia y queriamos no pedirla. De todas formas, si vemos que no hay mas remedio lo pediremos.

Muchas gracias

Has your Windows Server 2003 got Service Pack 1? The default object activation permissions for COM+/DCOM have been tightened to improve security and can result in "-2147024891 Access denied" errors.

No, my 2003 hasn't SP1.

I'll try to install it

Thnx

If you do not already have SP1, then it cannot be causing your problem (although your COM+ security configuration may still be root of the access denied error).

If you are going to install SP1, then be sure to read the documentation on http://www.microsoft.com/technet/ first. Windows Server 2003 SP1 will change the default security settings in a way that prevents remote activation of the SBO License Manager object (SBOLicense). You will need to add your SBO users to the new "BUILTIN\Distributed COM Users" group or make the equivalent changes direct to the COM+ configuration.

Oh! Thnx! I didn't read properly the previous answer.

Then, what is your advice? to install SP1 or not?

Please note that, if you are not working in a domain, the client user login must exist on the "Server" as well!

The password must also be the same!

Hi,

I used to have the same problem. After configure the DCOM setting, I manage to make "some" of the machine connected.

But the problem still remain for the other machine. Its been a while to solve the problem, until I realized that those machine (cannot connect) is using Microsoft Windows XP "Home Edition" either with SP1 or SP2. (Tried on 2 XP Home Edition machine). This I don't know why.

If you're using Win XP Profesional, and not join the domain. It sould be OK also, its depends on how you configure it.

But it is recomended that you join your domain.

Hope this helps,

Bruce.
