Using HRUSER to Create Users for ESS/MSS (Portal)

Good Afternoon Everyone,

When clients have users who have back end access to an SAP environment for non-HR and HR tasks in addition to ESS/MSS functionality, how do you separate the access? I have been told to use HRUSER but not sure how that would work.

What I do know is that each user who has to log into SAP to perform their daily tasks via transaction codes, has to have a dialog user ID created in SAP. In order for ESS/MSS to function properly in for employee, their communicaton infotype (0105) subtype(0001) is required to be updated with this same SAP ID. So I am clearly confused as to how HRUSER is used to implement access for ESS/MSS users.

Is a dialog user ID different than an HRUSER ID? Please help me understand.

Felicia

Hi Felicia,

it's a different user for r/3 and ess. To explain this better lets have an example:

There is a SAP User ID called HRHiring, this user is used to perform hiring in the system. for this purpose the SAP does not need to know who is the actual employee who hold this id (since it can be used by many people, not at the same time of course). Let just say that employee called felicia is using this user id for day to day activity.

Beside HRhiring user, felicia also have ess user called 200123(or Felicia or anything) that she can use to log on to ess. This user must be created in two system, the first is in the portal the second is in the r3. and then you link this two user in infotype 105. So when 200123 is logged into the portal system, the portal would know who is employee that hold this id and start to load the data (that's why you only see your data in personnel information).

you should now see clear separation of user name here, if felicia want to work as hr hiring admin then she would login to r/3 using hrhiring user. but if she want to access ess she will use 200123.

HRUSER is a tools to see who is the employee that hold a certain username.
