Downgrade Maxdb - Please help

Hi all please shed some light on this issue

I am doing SAP sys copy using Backup restore.

The IM DVD i am using to run sapinst worked 100 % with version 7.6.

I recently went up to version 7.8 and now sapinst is unable to create the DB instance in the sys copy procedure.

In the sapinst i specify rdbms Version 7.6 but because my database install is allredy on 7.8 it tries to create the instance on 7.8 and fails.

Is there a way to uninstall version 7.8 run sapinst and then do the upgrade just before the restore

As per note 1469675 this is how i am supposed to do it, but the problem is that i dont get to the stage when i can upgrade ...

It tries to create the instance based on version 7.8 and fails.

Thank you for any replies

What installation master DVD are you using? The way describe in the note should work with the latest DVDs for you release.

Hi Thank you for the quick response

The IM that i am using is the one that was used when the system was installed :

SAP:ROOT-LABEL-BS200x-NW2004SSR2:700-1:IM-CD:*:AIX_PPC64

What one should i be using to do the sys copy

The system is Ecc 6.0 on AIX 5.3

Thank you

I'd try with the SR3 DVD:

...and you put the sapdb.inf in the installation directory and restartede sapinst?

What's the content of that log?

So it seems you have already a database instance installed? Are you trying to do an MCOD installaton?

Hi

I am doing a SYS copy form PRD system to QAS.

So yes db instance is installed, i backup PRD database .... delete the QAS database .... and restore the PRD backup on QAS

So you run two databases on one system.

Did you point to the MaxDB 7.6 DVD when asked?

Markus

Hi yes correct

I run NBT which i did not delete .

And i run NBQ - which is the one i am trying to recover.

While using sapinst i did point it to the 7.6 rdbms, but it does not unpack it, i think it sees the 7.8 version and tries to create the instance on 7.8 and fails

When i was on DB version 7.6 this process worked 100% many times

Only now that i am on version 7.8 i am having these problems.

I understand your frustration, I was dealing with likewise issues some time ago. Since MaxDB 7.8 changed the internal software structure to enable isolated installations and sapinst doesn't know about this, you have problems with those "old versions" of DVDs.

You can try the following:

- install a new database client using the maxdb-as* package using

./SDBINST
-profile "Runtime For SAP AS"
-i CL_<SID>
-private_datapath /sapdb/clients/<SID>/data
-path /sapdb/clients/<SID>

- start sapinst, select system copy and step one or two dialogs further

- stop sapinst

- put the sapdb.inf from the note to the installation directory

- restart sapinst

- "continue old installation"
