Integration BI with BO

Former Member

Hi,

I´ve reado some guides and threads of this forum, but I´ve a doubt about the integration of BO with BI.

One B.O system is for example: B.O Enterprise X.I 3.0, and the other system is BI 7.01. The integration is made with the sap integration kit. This tool must to be installed in the option client in the BI server?

More thanks

Hi Ruben,

The first thing to note is that your version of Business Objects XI3.0 is very old and actually unsupported.

You need to upgrade to at least XI3.1 SP3, SP4 or BI4.0.

Once that is done you can install the XI3.1 SAP Integration Kit on the XI 3.1 server and also the client Int Kit on the client machines.

For BI4.0 there is no Int Kit to install as the components are already pre-packaged in the installation.

In terms of Supported Platforms for XI3.1 SP4 the following SAP servers are supported:

 SAP BW 3.5, BASIS level 20, ABA level 20, BW level 20

 SAP R/3 4.6c, BASIS level 41, ABA level 41

 SAP R/3 4.7, BASIS level 41, ABA level 41

 SAP NetWeaver BI 7.0, BASIS level 14, ABA level 14, BW level 14

 SAP NetWeaver BI 7.01, BASIS level 5, ABA level 5, BW level 5

 SAP NetWeaver BI 7.02, BASIS level 0, ABA level 0, BW level 0

 SAP NetWeaver BI 7.3, BASIS level 0, ABA level 0, BW level 0

 mySAP ERP 2004, BASIS level 19, ABA level 19, BW 3.5 level 19

 mySAP ERP 2005, BASIS level 14, ABA level 14, BI7 level 14

 SAP Enterprise Portal 6 SP19

 SAP Enterprise Portal 7 SP10

 SAP Enterprise Portal 7.3

*SAP servers have to have at least the above patch levels.

I suggest you consult the Supported Platforms and Int Kit installation documentation for configuration information, which generally includes setting up SAP authentication (SSO and SNC), importing the roles, configuring the BW publisher and importing the CR transports on the BW system. There are also a number of SAP notes on these topics.

I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.

Kind regards,

John

Hi,

I´ve the next BO XI 3.1 (12.1.0) This is XI 3.1 without SP.

Where can i found the supported platforms for XI3.1without SP?

I´ve founded this link Enterprise XI 3.1 for Windows - Supported Platforms in the service.sap.com/pam but I don´t get this information.

All supported platfroms docs are available on this very site in the Articles section or int he SMP under Business Objects Support > Documentation > suppoted Platforms

Then the process installation is to install the sap integration kit in server mode in the BO Enterprise XI3.1, and after that I´ve to install the sap integration kit in the client mode in the SAP BI 7.01 server? This is the right way?

More thanks

you do not need to install sap integration kit in the client mode in the SAP BI 7.01 server, you only need to import appropriate transports into SAP BI 7.x server.

The Installation guide for SAP int Kit has all the steps you'll need

Hi Ruben,

Yes that is correct, but you need to patch up to at least XI3.1 SP3 or SP4 as they are the supported patch levels and mean you will qualify for patch support from our developers.

As Denis said ideally you would be advised to take advantage of the new features provided with BI4.0.

I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.

Thanks for yours answers,

But Where can i found the PAM for to view if it´s necessary to install SP3 or SP4?

Hi Ruben,

On the SAP Support site you can view all the PAM information for XI3.1 and also the SAP Integration Kit.

Listed under the Documentation area.

http://help.sap.com/

- SAP Business Objects

- All Products

Then you can search for the version\product.

You can install pre SP3 and SP4 but as I say you would not be able to recieve any patch support from our Product Group if a problem occurs on SP2 for instance, our policy is to support the last 2 Service Pack levels.

I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.

Thanks John,

If I have the BO Version 12.1.0 I´ve the BO XI 3.1 without SP, no?

yes

Then the steps that I´ve to follow are the next:

1-. Install SP3 or SP4 in the BO Enterprise XI

2-. Install BO Integration KIT XI 3.1 with the same SP level (SP3 o SP4) that the BO Enteprise XI, in the same host that resides BO Enterprise XI.

3-. I don´t install the client side of BO Integration Kit. I´ve to transport the request.

The integration sap XI 3.1 without SP, Does it possible?

SAP Server requirements explains this

SAP NetWeaver BI 7.0, BASIS level 14, ABA level 14, BW level 14

SAP NetWeaver BI 7.02, BASIS level 0, ABA level 0, BW level 0

I´ve the system BI 7.01 Basis level 08, ABA level 08, BW level 08.

The steps should be :

1. Install XI3.1 SP3 full Build

2. Install Xi3.1 Sp3 Int Kit for SAP

3. Install Xi3.1 SP4

4. Install SAp Int Kit Sp4

5. Import transports into your BW system.

A lot of thanks Denis,

1-. Full build means that i need to install SP3 and all the following fixpacks?

2-. Could install the XI3.1 SP4 directly and after that do the same with the SAP integration KIT?

denis_konovalov

1. Full build means Xi3.1 with built in SP3 package. versus Xi3.1 and then installing SP3 on top of it.

2. There is no Sp4 full build, only PS4 upgrade package that requires Xi3.1 Sp2 or XI3.1 Sp3 already installed

I´m searching the SP for the BO Enterprise X3.1 and BO SAP integration KIT. But I´ve followed the note

1561265 - Where to find SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP3 patch or full build and how to install.

But the SP3 for BO Enteprise X3.1 not appear.

The patches for the BO SAP integration KIT, are they acumulative? If I´ve installed SP2 and want to install SP3 I have to install all fixpack between this SP?

More thanks

all patches are cumulative.

If you have problems finding things in SMP - call CIC (phone numbers are listed on SMP mainpage ) - they can guide you to the location.

Thanks again Denis,

I´ve founded the patches for Enterprise XI and integration Kit, but both are 32 bits. I´ve installed the BO Enteprise in a Windows 2008 X64 bits. Only there 32 bits or there are 64 bits?

all BOE products before BI4.0 are 32bit apps.

in SAp BI4.0 Server side is 64bit , client side is 32bit

Hi Ruben,

There is a single (full build) of XI3.1 that comes with SP3 pre installed, on top which you will need to install the SAP Int Kit SP3 as previously specified.

After which you will need to patch up to SP4, so install SP4 for XI3.1, then SP4 for the SAP Int Kit.

And don't forget to import the latest SP4 transports.

If you have any concerns please let me know.

I hope this is clear and that it is a very helpful answer to you.

Kind regards,

John

You are told to me that I´ve to install first SP3 for XI 3.1 because is Full Build and I cannot install SP4 directly from XI 3.1 without SP. I´ve gone to SMP to download patches and i´ve founded this SP:

SBOP Enterprise XI 3.1 ServicePack 3 (Server + Client) ENTERPRISE03_0-10007443.EXE 25.05.2010

SBOP Enterprise XI 3.1 ServicePack 4 (Server + Client) ENTERPRISE04_0-10007443.EXE 01.06.2011

Could be avalaible the SP4 FULL Build?

There are a guide/note for to know the constraints about the installation of SP on a working system?

More thanks

Hi Ruben,

The SP4 is not a full build, you will need to install that separately on top of the XI3.1 SP3 package.

All of the SP's have Installation Guides, there are not any constraints as such apart from the regular Supported Platform information.

I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.

In the update guide says this:

You have two options for installing SAP BusinessObjects Enterrpise XI 3.1 SP3 and its associated programs.

u2022 An update install that can upgrade your current SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 or SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP2 deployment to the SP3 level.

u2022 A refresh install will perform a full installation of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP3.

In one step says that:

It is recommended that you stop all the BusinessObjects Enterprise servers except the Central Management Server before installing any update packages.

I´ve to go inside CMS and after go to SERVERS and SERVERS LIST, and stop all the server except BOSERVER.CentralManagementServer. It´s correct?

Hi Ruben,

If you are on XI 3.0 and need to get upto XI3.1 SP3, there are two ways to get there:

1. Backup the CMS db and FRS's.

2. Run the XI3.1 upgrade - yes you need to stop the services (all, except CMS).

3. Run the Update Objects from the CMC.

4. Patch up to SP3

5. Install the SAP Int Kit SP3

6. Patch up to SP4

Although the cleanest way would be XI3.1 SP3 full buildon a new server and do a CMS db copy and then copy over the FRS. Followed by the SAP Int Kit SP3 and then SP4.

The choice is yours.

I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.

John

Hello John,

I´ve the BO XI 3.1, then i´ve to install SP3. Only i want to connect BI 7.01 with the BO XI 3.1, with the SP3 I believe that is sufficient.

Then it will be:

1. Backup CMS (What is it FR´s?)

2. Patch up to SP3

3. Patch up to SP3

4. Install the SAP Int Kit SP3

It´s correct,no?

Hi Ruben,

Yes this is correct.

The FRS refers to the File Repository Servers - there are Input and Output FRS's which hold the report templates and report instances. I was just recommending that you back up these folders for rollback purposes.

I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.

John

In the central Management server, appears 12.1.0 version of Business Objects Enterprise X3.1, when I´ve tried to install the SP3 I´ve get this message:

SAP BO Enterprise XI 3.1 SP3 Update is not allowed to install because a patch with a higher version was detected

How can check the right version of the BO Enterprise?¿?¿

Hi Ruben,

The message suggests that you already have XI3.1 SP4 installed and you are trying to install XI3.1 SP3 on top of that, or something similar.

Check in the Control Panel - Add\Remove Programs - there you can see all of the installed XI3.1 components and Service Packs.

Alternatively use the XI3.1 Software Inventory Tool to see the installed software.

I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.

Kind regards,

John

If i want to connect a BI system with BO, I´ve to include only the BI transports:

(These files are Unicode enabled.)

  • Content Administration transport (K900692.r21 and R900692.r21)

  • Personalization transport (K900693.r21 and R900693.r21)

  • MDX Query Connectivity transport (K900694.r21 and R900694.r21)

  • ODS Connectivity transport (K900695.r21 and R900695.r21)

If it´s correct, I just to include the requests in the queue of BI and it´s ok?

More thanks.

In the transports_EN doc appears this:

There are two sets of transport files, which can be used with BusinessObjects Enterprise Integration Kit for SAP. One set is ANSI and the other set is Unicode enabled.

The set of transports you must use depends on the BASIS system your SAP system is running on. Additionally, each transport consists of a data file and a cofile, which are listed in brackets behind the transport names.

If your SAP system is running on a BASIS system earlier than 6.20, you must use the files listed below:

(These files are ANSI.)

  • Open SQL Connectivity transport (K900120.r22 and R900120.r22)

  • Info Set Connectivity transport (K900121.r22 and R900121.r22)

  • Row-level Security Definition transport (K900122.r22 and R900122.r22)

  • Cluster Definition transport (K900123.r22 and R900123.r22)

  • Authentication Helpers transport (K900124.r22 and R900124.r22)

If your SAP system is running on a 6.20 BASIS system or later, you must use the files listed below: These maybe included to?

(These files are Unicode enabled.)

  • Open SQL Connectivity transport (K900687.r21 and R900687.r21)

  • Info Set Connectivity transport (K900688.r21 and R900688.r21)

  • Row-level Security Definition transport (K900689.r21 and R900689.r21)

  • Cluster Definition transport (K900690.r21 and R900690.r21)

  • Authentication Helpers transport (K900691.r21 and R900691.r21)

The following files must be used on an SAP BW system: The BW version is 7.01--Only have to put this transports?

(These files are Unicode enabled.)

  • Content Administration transport (K900692.r21 and R900692.r21)

  • Personalization transport (K900693.r21 and R900693.r21)

  • MDX Query Connectivity transport (K900694.r21 and R900694.r21)

  • ODS Connectivity transport (K900695.r21 and R900695.r21)

The transports for ECC are mandatory if I just want to connect the BI with BO?

I´ve added the transports in the queue of BI development and make the import but only appears the description and the status of the transport is Request waiting to be imported. How can i do?

Thanks Henry,

I´ve put the several requests changing the K900693.r21 for K900705.r21. As it says this note:

1484086 - XI 3.1 SP3 Integration for SAP Solutions transport files cause "table could not be activated" errors

In the installation of integration Ki, The parameters of BW Publisher I´ve put the the next parameters:

id_program: BI_Publiser

Host Gateway: The gateway of the server BI, not the BO integration Kit server. It´s correct?

Gateway service: the instance 3300 where the gateway is installed.

These parameters introduced in the installation are corrects?

How can do the rfc connection in the SM59? Have I to pointed to program BI_Publisher or bwcepubsvc.exe. I´ve tried with two options and both are incorrect
