7.5 NW: Uunable to delete dimension members from the entity dimension

Hi,

I would really appreciate a solution to this. We are planning on implementing an IFRS consolidation using the SAP IFRS Starter Kit. We have created a copy of the IFRS Starter Kit, without any data. In order to customise it for our purposes, we have decided to keep the sample dimension members in Accounts, Flow and AuditID but delete the data in other dimensions. We have managed to delete the sample dimension members from the Time, Inter-company and Conoscope dimensions but are unable to do it for the Entity and RateEntity dimension.

Can anyone please explain why this is happening? There is no data in the application and so, why is this happening? We are on Service Pack 5.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

It might be still used at some place, may be in BPF instance.

It is always helpful, if you can post the exact error message you receive.

Hi.

Error message from you would be helpfull to answer your question.

If this message is not clear and informative, you can try to delete master data (one entity, for example) from proper info-object in BW (rsa1). BW will provide detailed log about where this recoed is still used. But try this if nothing else helps, it's preferable not to do any manual thing directly in NW.

Thank you so much for the response.

The error message was "Error in Admin module".

As far as deleting the data from BW is concerned, we have tried doing that as well, without any success. When we right click on the info-object "Entity" and select "Delete Master Data", it says that data cannot be deleted. When I go into SLG1 and try to trace back, I am unable to decipher the log in SLG1 and unable to find where the data is being used. I am a complete beginner in BW and so, any help in this area would also be appreciated.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Just to respond to the point around BPFs, we have not created any new ones. We just have templates which came out of the box. I have gone through all 4 of them and none of them specify any specific value for the entity dimension. It is being used in the BPFs but generically, rather than specifically.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Before going into the BPFs, i am sure you would have already checked, I would do the following:

-Try to process the entity dimension in offline mode. I have seen this happening with some dimenions that i know there is absolutely no transaction action. Just check processing the entity in offline mode. Do not untick 'take the appset offline'.

- You would have done this. Double check for the transaction data.

- Regarding BPFs, its not easy to check this. we had this situation earlier. Please go into the backend and in se16 you will find all the BPF tables with UJB*

There would around 10-12 such tables. Have alook in them. Not all tables need to be looked into. But please have a check there.

- Also check if entity has been referenced to any other dimension. Its good to check if you have INTCO dimension to see if it is referenced there.

Thanks,

Sreeni

kashifmehmood , about deletion from BW directly.

To get log: right click on info-object in rsa1 - maintain master data-execute.

Select some entity and delete it, press save. If dialog occur, select "without SID". If message "No master data was deleted" occur, press ok and in bottom part of screen you can see button "Log" -press it - execute. In top part of screen you'll see list of deletion attempts, in bottom - messages like "Master data XXX (SID 1234) is used in /XXX/XXXXX; is not deleted".

/XXX/XXXXX - Table name, usually hierarchy table or something like that. Maybe you must delete hierarchy of BW info-object then.

Also I suggest you first to try such an BPC trick: change descriptions of all entity (for example, add _ in the end), process dimension, change description back, process, then try to delete from BPC admin client again. This was helpful for us in many cases with errors with master data.

Hi,

I just followed the advice given by Anton and others. I had to delete the hierarchy from from the selected dimensions from BW before the items could be deleted. Then, from the BPC admin console, I just clicked "Refresh from server" or something similar for the selected dimension and it automatically synced with BW (which was NIL). So, everything was gone but I had to manually add a column for the PARENTH1 hierarchy for ENTITY and RATEENTITY.

Thanks.

I had to do the same thing today and you can just remove the members from the hierarchy in BW (rather than deleting the hierarchy completely)

next time..

If you delete "with SID" sometimes you have to delete entire hierarchy, cause SID is used in internal hierarchy sid's table.
