New Client creation using SAP_CUST v/s SAP_ALL profile post installation

Hello,

I have a conceptual query as follows:

After new SAP system installation we create a new client copying 000 using SAP_CUST client copy profile as per SAP Note 550894 - CC-ADMIN: Setting up a new client

I have read through the SAP Note but still fail to understand technicality in terms of comparing the same against using SAP_ALL profile.

My understanding is using SAP_ALL profile would bring in some more client specific data (application data), consistency of which cannot be guaranteed as per above SAP Note.

Understanding the above risk are there any other reasons considering which SAP_CUST must still be used for copy and not SAP_ALL ?

Thanks & Regards,

Hi,

The reasons already been mentioned in the SAP note that you mentioned about number range and application data consistency.

But as per my personnel experience, I did a lot of copy with SAP_ALL profile and did not face any error. Just my personnel experience and does not have any recommendation that you also follow the same.

Thanks

I might be trying to read between lines.

I fail to understand following lines from same SAP Note:

Only client 000 is populated with upgrades, Legal Change Packages, Support Packages, language imports and so on with new Customizing so that it always contains the current sample Customizing. This is why it is also so important that the copy is only carried out after the system is updated.

Above holds true when new system is built.

But after system is live one regularly update it by means of upgrade, legal change package, SP, etc. So what about already existing productive clients then !!

I hope my query is not too much confusing.

Hi,

The OSS notes recommendation is for the client copy you do immediately after your system installation not when the system is in Live. When your system is in Live under production the client copy request may be diff based on your test scenario your developers would like to test. E.g Local client copy from ECQ 500 to ECQ 300 with SAP_APPL profile and they may request you to retain the master record as it is in target client.

Thanks for your reply but I am not only trying to gauge client copy.

I am trying to look at broader picture when SAP states that support packages etc. only get applied in 000, what about rest of clients !!

Just to reiterate it is more of a conceptual query as I am aware of know-hot to apply patches, language packages etc.

I am trying to understand the statement in mentioned SAP Note and so it's repercussion.

Hi Juan,

This is my (personal) certification S User ID.

All others might be under a particular customer number.

There might exist one other public S User ID on my name.

I am looking to collaborate these two IDs. Please let me know if there is any way.

Please let me know if I need to do anything else.

Thanks & Regards,
