Increase the lenght of characteristics

Hi

We need to increase the length of characteristics from 30 to 60. Shall we increase the length provided by standard SAP. Will it affect any other screens/ functionlities if we change the length.

Yes,its quite possible to increase the length of characteristics.

However,it involves numerous changes in the ABAP dictionary and source code and hence is not recommended.If you still wish to persist,refer SAP note 554086.

Is there any specific business requirement for which you need to increase the length ? Please share details so that we can help you in a better way.

As such changing SAP standard objects is not recommended as a best practise.

We have a characteristic field to specify the document sources. The name of the sources are more than 30 characters. Can we meet this business requirement?

The length of characteristics cannot be increased beyond 30 chars.

Instead you can choose option Multiple Values while creating characteristics.

This will help user multiple values for a single char.
