Could not generate flash file.

Hi all,

Hoping you can assist!

I'm experiencing the error message when trying to export my dahsboard - "Could not generate the Flash file (SWF); the cause is not known".

Things to note:

*Only occurs when using multiple series on a combination chart (I.e. exports fine when only using a single data series, as soon as a add a second, it won't export.

*Doesn't occur when i copy/paste values over formula (suggests a formula related issue)

Has anyone experienced a similiar error message before? If so, what did you do to fix the problem.

Happy to provide the .XLF is required.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi

Were any of the formulas date-based, e.g. =today()

We've seen that cause issues.

Also some excel add-ins don't like Xcelsius and make some kind of corruption in the xlf. Have you any of those?

HI,

Yes, we've used several date formulas. I have remove the =today() however we still have quite a few day/month/year formulas. Still having the same issue.

The date formulas a required as the user needs to have the ability to adjust the data they are looking at by period (daily/monthly etc).

It seems to work okay when the number of cells the graph is reffering to are reduced (approx 20). I currently have it looking at 31 days of data which is a requirment.

And no add-ins are currently installed. This issue is repeated on 2 other pc's.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Same problem here. But no matter what I put in the design, it fails to generate the flash file and gives that message.

Hi Rifat,

If i am right,

Normally if your dashboard .xlf file size is larger ,then it ll give errors like couldnt generate swf error.

1)Is  your dashboard size is more ?

2)Are you able to generate swf  for other Dashboards.you can check File -->templates. ?

3)If you are complex functions and logic, then there could be a chance to get the same error?

4) By using Parent ,Child dashboards ,you can reduce the dashboard size.

Thanks Pappu, I actually used simple addition-multiplication formula and also tried using the templates, no luck.

Hi Chris,

Take a look at the following note on the SAP marketplace

1754859

When publishing the Dashboards to SAP portal through Dashboards Design 4.0, error occurs: "Could not generate the swf file"

Hope this help on you issue.

All,

It might be the machine running out of memory, which can cause problems. Open Task Manager (CTRL+Shift+Esc) and go to the performance tab. Make a note of how much physical memory you have. Do the thing that gives the error. Does your used RAM go above the physical memory? If yes, get more ram or close some other applications. This may help.

Otherwise check that the date functions you're using are in the list of allowed functions (it's in the help).
